A very good article which highlights the main reasons why we should support the PS Waverley.
I remember sailing on the Waverley and other paddle steamers that sailed on the Clyde when I was young. It was a different experience to sailing on ferries that transported people from one town to another and one that should be preserved.
In this day and age we are always in a hurry to get from one place to another. On roads the speed limit is never high enough for some drivers they must go faster. Air transport can be a nightmare at times and trains, well, I will say no more particularly after the chaos caused to Edinburgh commuters within the past few days.
But enter the world of the Waverley and calm is restored. What an amazing way to travel on the Clyde. Where you can take time "to stand and stare". To imagine the shipbuilding industry that flourished in the 19th and 20th century and the sounds that must have echoed from the shipyards. To wonder at the developments that are taking place along the Clyde.
Long may the Waverley continue to sail down the river where she was built as this is a ship worth saving.
As mentioned in the newspaper article Waverley Excursions have placed a donate button on the front page of their web site so that people can donate (even small amounts) to the appeal to keep the Waverley on the Clyde next season. I believe there is even a prize draw of a free Waverley cruise for people donating £20 or over.
