They may be relying on the on board spending to make up the difference?

Most certainly they are.  Drinks, extras, tips (gratuities,) tours, shops, hairdresser, beauty parlour, photographs, casino, etc, etc all are never discounted.  And let's face it eight non stop days at sea is really intensely boring, so what else is there to do but spend?
Cruise ships rely on the client to spend more than the fare whilst on board.  Is it still in dollars?

I wonder if Carnival / Cunard are finding it rather harder to get 'bums on seats' in three Cunard ships?

Normally by now l would be booked on a voyage, and a lot of other friends would be in the same position...
But lm not and neither are they ???, However there is of course the influx of the new breed of cruiser who will take our place, they will accept what is given to them and think all is wonderful and bright.
But surely if P&O,Holland America and Princess can fill their fleet of ships with their passengers, surely Cunard can fill their ships, they have after all only 3 of them. And given the level of discounting and every voyage offering the OBC, can anyone afford not to be cruising in this present time......

Maybe we need to persuade some of these travel agents with the amazing fares to advertise here :)

Brilliant idea!  I will let mine know about this site before I go ahead and give out her contact info.  Perhaps the company she works for will be willing to advertise here.  She is a QE2 fan, a Cunard specialist and a member of the Winter Crossing Club, so that tells you something.  I know she also handles bookings for those living out of the USA as well.

Flying out, and sailing back means that not only would you lose 5 hours on QM2,
you'd also miss that magnificent sight sailing in to New York harbour.
And that like the Guests, the crew become progressively less energetic!
(Mention 'Trans-Atlantics on board' and this is a 'chronic' topic of conversation/ 'problem' for the ship's company!)

The Grand Duplex suite is sold.
The same company a few years ago, took over the whole ship for an exclusive crossing. The also had several groups trips on dear old QE2.

Just received this from Cunard World Club for QM2's British Isles trip this September.  Tempting to swap out with my January 2012 crossing.....but I have a balcony with $400 OBC for the same price as the inside cabin offered here.
