i was treated to a treasure trove of photos of him with  presidents , of various countrys  , HMQE2 herself the duke  nelson madela and every film star known to mankind  ;D    This man should write his memoirs

Wonderful encounter! Could you persuade him to join the Forum or to let you post some of his memorabilia here? Such a good way of ensuring that history is recorded!

We have been contacted by Stephen, from Burgess Hill , West Sussex, asking if there is anyone local to that area, that would be interested in his collection of memorabilia from a cruise on QE2 in 1999.

He is keen for the items to go to someone with an interest in QE2 and is only looking for a token payment.  Please either send me or one of the other moderators a personal message or contact us on admin@theqe2story,com if you would like to contact Stephen regarding obtaining this collection.

On the anniversary of QE2's Maiden Voyage I wonder how many pieces of Maiden Voyage memorabilia our members have collected.  Please post pictures of items on this topic.

Ian Fisher had asked about the value of his FDC a few years ago and Peter had given some information. I am sure there must be lots more pieces of memorabilia out there

Stephen would like to know whether anyone is interested in his memorabilia from 1999. If not, he will need to get rid of them, as he is downsizing his home. If you are interested, please let us know by replying here or by sending an email to <admin@theqe2story.com>.

I notice that the Ron Warwick book is there, as is a set of QE2 playing cards... It would seem a pity to let them go...

I think Bob Higginson at Brixham Steam Packet Company might be interested.

I myself would be but the shipping might be problematic.

The QE2 Story Admin has been contacted by the partner of Geoffrey Duke, who worked on the QE2 (as Casino Engineer for Mecca) for five years in the early 1980s when he both bought and acquired a selection of items which he treasured.

Sadly, Geoff passed away last year. His partner, Sarah, has been trying to find a suitable outlet in which to sell the items.  She has contacted Cobwebs in Southampton but they are not buying at the moment and the gentleman at Brixham Steam Packet Co is running down stock with a view to retirement.

Not wanting to  down the route of ebay and the or other online selling option she has contacted us to ask if you may be able to assist.

If any of our members would be interest in the items can you post on this topic, send me a message or contact admin@theqe2story.com and I will communicate with Sarah on your behalf.

Or can anyone suggest an auction house or shop that that she could use.  Worst case scenario would be if these items just ended up in a skip!

QE2 Whisky (from Springbank Distillery) in presentation box:

Information pack in Whisky presentation box:

Two White T Shirts and two QE2 Ties

Selection of papers, including postcards, 1981 world cruise items, newspapers from July 1981, facts & figures sheet, etc.

It is great to see the bereaved partner offering these items to us, so that we can prevent some of them going into a skip.

I wonder would she consider offering a few as prizes in photo competitions? A solution would probably be easy to find as regards the cost of posting them.

I could for instance see the whiskey and the T-shirt and the postcard collection as suitable for a photo competition. What do you think?

Has she actually offered them to the forum ?.
In whisky world when you mention Springbank it does and will add a certain extra value to the item. However sometimes the value isn't what you expect. Id say to her , gather some friends around who knew her partner , open the bottle and toast his memories ! now thats priceless.  I have the same bottle, it sits tucked away , the many other QE2 bottles in my collection . a number of years ago l had one "valued" the auctioneer hadn't seen one before, so he simply googled it and gave the reply its worth more to a QE2 collector than to a whisky collector. I doubt l will open any of my bottles but they will sit there and gather dust , but they are nice to look at. I never did like that Auctioneer from then, and one of those you see advertised in the papers. But they get their money no matter how much or little stuff sells for. and its a hefty cut.

Look at The Macallan , they are churning out mass produced crap with new variations literally every week and the hype pushes the value through the roof.  If your successful in the ballots, then its very easy money to make, just dont be greedy. l sold a bottle from the folio collection for way over the asking price to a guest, purely by chance he was over collecting a £80K fine bottle and got a kick out of the fact mine was still in the original box with address label etc and unopened. he was going to simply take it home to Switzerland gather some of his friends around , and enjoy the experience of opening a new and sealed box. he said later if he wanted to make money he could fly to Hong Kong with his £80K and flip it for £400£ but hes a collector and as such that wont apply to him.
In my job iv been lucky to have some rather nice bottles of bubbles and while its very easy to be blaze about it , people say ok keep it for a special occasion, but to open a bottle of champagne is a special occasion and it does give a very nice edge on a bucks fizz . At 9am on Christmas day during lockdown it was fabulous.

The QE2 ties, at the time l bought mine in 86 l couldn't believe l was paying so much for a tie, it wasnt even boxed, but l wore it mainly in QE2. the World cruise tie l loaned to a friend who was doing a World Cruise for her to lend to her partner , why they didn't buy a tie l dont know , buts thats QE2 passengers for you . Other than at work l rarely if ever wear a tie, and if l do its the Queen Mary purple tartan tie , which goes with nothing. But hey l like it.

But sometimes it just hard to put a "value" on things .

Following on from Cunardqueen's information that the coin is a Casino Token, have a look at the topic on Casino Tokens
