Definitely supports her being called RMS.  Thanks, Jane !

I suspect that what happened was that while she was not officially an RMS although entitled to be ( as proved by Michael G a couple of years ago ) most of those involved with her in all respects disagreed with the formal decision from Cunard's management and just went ahead and called her an RMS anyway.  Certainly she is always RMS to me!

I just went through an old I have box and ran across this collectors item from 1969!  Among other things I have the passenger list from 14 Aug 1969 crossing, original menus, daily programmes, etc.  A great (re)discovery.

Absolutely fantastic Bob!  The tie looks like new!  You need to wear it!!  Love how its made in England, and even quite near to Southampton.  Things were so much simpler back then...

Yes, I do agree that things were so much simpler then, more elegant, and it seems that things had more meaning.  Perhaps that is one of the reasons that our beloved QE2 is so dear to us.  Yes, Bob, you must wear the tie !  June  :)

It was still wrapped in the gift wrapping paper used onboard in the shops in 1969.

Fantastic find especially the programmes, passenger list and menus.  The ties will be a talking point when you wear them.  I know when my husband wears his QE2 ties when we are cruising people ask about them.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Visited the Trades House on Glassford Street, Glasgow at the weekend as part of the Open Doors event. This picture caught my eye! It is situated in the Deacon Convenor's suite on the first floor and was presented to the Incorporation of Wrights in 1994 by Captain Robin Woodall. (Problem with spelling on the plaque there!) The Wrights Craft seeks to promote the furtherance of the woodworking industry and trade education.

I thought you might be interested in a plaque that I was given on the ship when I accompanied the pilot when QE2 was entering Port Phillip Bay (Melbourne, that is) on February 29, 2008. The pilot was given one too. I haven't seen this plaque on the forum but the master(s) must have had a stock of them to give away during the final year of operation.

Hi Lachlan
What a special memento!
Together with the memories; it must have been a great experience to help bring her in to the port!
Thanks so much for letting us see it.
As a matter of interest - was it 'lumpy seas' at the pilot station?

Hi Lachlan -

Thanks very much for sharing your plaque with us here on The Forum.  I have not seen one before and it is a wonderful memory to have of our QE2.  Can you tell us any more things you remember from that day ?

I wonder if perhaps it was a "standard" photo that they used.
Heres the same photo which was given to me on my Birthday signed and dated by Captain John Burton-Hall. A great many years ago
A gift to treasure, and hangs on my QE2 wall.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

Almost certainly; given that it appears two posts higher up in Cunarder Man's close up of the one on his wall and it's dated 1994 there it is clear that the picture has been used across a number of years.

But why not?  After all, it's a damn good photo and the Needles Passage provides a brilliant scenic backdrop that you'd be hard pressed to beat anywhere.
