Hi,

I managed to get round to putting a profile picture against my user - the funnel of the QE2 circa 18 months ago.

I'll try and get round to posting some more pictures from our personal tour throughout the ship at the time in Port Rashid. Depending on how many appear relevant I'll either put them in an album or just post with messages - there are some good ones and some sad ones.

I have had a couple of questions about my user name. I am the youngest ever passenger on account of having been 2 weeks old when I travelled from Greenock to Southampton a couple of days before Christmas in 1968.

Hi Lisa - Welcome to the QE2Story forum.  I'd love to hear how you ended up on the QE2 when you were two weeks old and how you ended up on her again in Dubai over 40 years later.

Whenever I hear a sea story I think of the first time I saw the QE2 and the great adventures that followed.

Hi Janice,

My father was the Chief engineer on the Qe2 project and my family went with him on the sea trials. Born only two weeks earlier we all set sail to test the facilities whilst Dad worked hard in the engine room.

I have much memorabilia that Dad has kept over the years including launch invites, tickets, photos and much much more from that voyage and others. I hope to share some of this with the forum.

Some 40 years later, whilst on holiday, my husband made contact with Nakheel in Dubai to explain my history and they very kindly set up a full ships tour with one of their employees. The tour lasted over 2 hours and there was no area off limits. I go to visit my Dads domain in the engine rooms, the bridge, exclusive suites .....well all of her really. The new owners were trying hard to maintain her but she was taking a battering in the intense heat.

I have grown up with the Qe2 a part of my life with my fathers long term involvement. He even played a part in the fitting of the heli pad  when she assisted in the Falklands war. My fathers knowledge is vast and he recently handed me all of his memorabilia and I am slowly working through all his papers. At the age of 85, his heath is failing him but his memory as clear as ever.

Hope that gives you an insight.

Thanks for getting in touch.

Hi Lisa - Sounds like the QE2 was a big part of your family's life.  What stories you and your dad can tell!  It also sounds like the sea trials and your tour in Dubai were not the only times you were on board.   I look forward to hearing more stories from your unique perspective.   I noticed you posted on another topic that you have photos of your tour in Dubai.  I look forward to seeing them as well as any other photos of the QE2 over the years that you can share.

I'm glad you joined this site.
