Bear in mind the new railway timetable will apply by July!  the current timetable expires at 02.00 on 22nd May.

Link to follow...

Edited to add:  The .pdf files for the new timetable aren't online yet.  Should be available by now; will keep checking and post the link for you all when they are activated...

Could someone post some photos of the Greenock area. I ask because Mauretania was laid up here in 1917 during WWI, and I am compiling an account of her war history. If ANYONE knows where exactly in Greenock she was moored, I should be grateful. There is apparantly one photograph somebody took (very naughty as she was under Admiralty.) They didn't know what to do with her, she made a wonderful troopship and hospital ship but she was no good as an armed merchant cruiser, she ate too much coal!
I will be thinking of you all having fun with the Tall Ships while I shiver in wet, wintry New Zealand. Best wishes to all, Ellen.

Only 47 days until we meet for drinks at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow on Friday 8 July which will be the start of our QE2 Story week-end.  ;D

I thought you would be interested in a recap on planning for the QE2 Story at the Tall Ships event.

Friday 8 July
Crowne Plaza Hotel Glasgow for drinks 7.30 pm to late.

Saturday 9 July
Waverley trip Glasgow to Greenock:
Rob, Flagship, Rosie, Tom and myself are booked for the Waverley on Saturday 9 July. Ali (Singlemalt) and Helen (Clydepaddler)  to confirm if they are joining us on the Waverley part of the trip.

If any other members are joining us for this part of the day it would be a good idea to book your ticket and let us know that you have done so.

http://www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk/

Alan and Shona (QE2 Whistle)  are meeting us at Greenock.

Tall Ships in Greenock:
The Tall Ships Race web page has been updated with information about the event.  I see that Lulu will be one of the headline acts on Saturday 9 July but no details of the time.  There will be an opening parade at 2.00pm.  Street Markets will be in place and it is likely that some of the tall ships will be open to visitors to come onboard.  Follow the Tall Ships Race link for more details.

Clyde Cruises trip out to the Tall Ships.
Let me know if you think it is a good idea to pre-book places for QE2 story members and if you are interested in joining us for this part of the day.

Pre-Theatre Dinner at the Tontine Hotel   I have made an initial booking for 10 people to secure a table for those who have put their names forward so far (see below).  If you are joining us for the pre-theatre dinner and your name is not noted below please let me know.

Rob Lightbody
Lynda and Tom
Rosie (Twynkle)
Alan and Shona QE2 Whistle

Singlemalt

We had a very enjoyable week-end last year and this year's event is looking good.  If you have not already put your name forward and are thinking of joining us at any part of the week-end please let us know.

Hi Lynda, I will be sailing on Waverley (fingers crossed) with my son George all day on sat 9th and look forward to meeting you and as many other forum members as possible.
We may make it for drinks friday night, but not 100% sure of that yet.
On Sun 11th we will also be on Waverley, she certainly needs all the support she can get.
Kind regards, Steve Strachan.

Hello Steve

Also looking forward to meeting you when we are on the Waverley.

Hope you can come along to the Crown Plaza on the Friday evening.  We enjoyed meeting on the Friday evening last year as it was a good start to the week-end and a good opportunity to chat over a drink.

I have had a look at the Clyde Cruises proposed timetable for  Saturday 9 July the times are:

1330 - if we book for this one we will be back at 14.15 but will probably miss  some of the parade.

1430 - again we will miss some of the parade.

1630 - which returns at 17.15 giving us only 15 minutes to walk to the Tontine Hotel for our meal at 1730

ttp://www.clydecruises.com/tall-ships/harbour-tours/timetable.aspx

Do we book in advance or wait until the day and take our chance that we can get on one of the Clyde Cruises boatd?

Lynda - Thank you for this link

The Clyde Cruises website says their timetable will be finalised 2 weeks before - that's this weekend
Anyone else wanting to know more?

The later sailing might be best - if anyone else can manage it, please can you count me in for that one too

Rosie.

It looks like I will be able to come along for drinks at the Crowne Plaza on Friday as I'm still here in Glasgow.
I couldn't book anything in advance as I didn't know if I would be in Kuwait or not. Will be good to see you all again  :)

Sounds good, Alistair - looking forward to seeing you again!

In a bit of a hurry - just wondering would anyone else who is coming like to come on one of the Clyde Cruise small boats - on Sunday 10th July?
http://www.clydecruises.com/tall-ships/harbour-tours/timetable.aspx
I will be ringing them first thing tomorrow morning!
A person who lives/works in Greenock has told that the best way to see the Tall Ships will be from the water.

(She also said that the folk in Greenock are feeling 'a bit' left out - all the sponsorship and other trade having been taken up by big companies - and that the locals haven't been asked to become involved at all.)

More than 50 ships set sail from Waterford

It was a wonderful show! The Irish newspapers were full of it over the week-end, and the radio reports (I don't watch television) were too. It must have been a lovely, festive, happy and amazing week-end in Waterford... and the pictures looked quite extraordinary.

Here just a few newspaper articles :

http://www.irishtimes.com/search/index.html?rm=listresults&filter=datedesc&keywords=waterford+tall+ship

I was particularly impressed by a report on a ship fitted out so that mobility impaired and blind people can enjoy as many as possible of the activities on board -- including a wheelchair lift up a mast!

And a beautiful set on Flickr by Michael 678, here :

Those in Greenock next week-end -- enjoy yourselves!
