What was your favourite time of day on board QE2?
« on: Oct 29, 2010, 05:03 PM »
Calling Everyone - Crew, Passengers and QE2 admirers-from-afar!

If you could choose just say, a couple of hours or so, morning, noon or night -
was there a favourite time on board, one that you will remember forever?

To Everyone from afar, after getting to know QE2 through the eyes and ears of the Forum   - is there any special time that you too, would have really, really loved to have spent on QE2?

Heading off now to try and choose... :)

I liked all times of day on the QE2 but if I had to choose just one it would be the evening as I loved getting dressed for dinner then going to the Crystal Bar or the Chart room for cocktails followed by the wonderful relaxing experience of dinner then off the the grand lounge to watch a show.

If I have to choose only one - breakfast.

That aroma coming from Britannia/Tables of the World in the morning as I raced up A Stairway from 4 Deck is unforgettable!  Plus I had an entire day of adventure ahead of me.

Cant beat it!

My favourite time onboard was just after work. Get a hot shower and change into something more comfortable (usually jeans/T-shirt, flip-flops).
Nip up to the mess for a meal and then, depending on where the ship was, either go out onto the fo'c'sle or two-deck aft for a breath of fresh air. Afterwards, having a drink in either the 'Pig' or PO's club before retiring for the night. Sometimes, avoiding the 'Pig' altogether and nipping round to another cabin with a few mates to watch a video instead.

If I'd been fortunate enough to go on QE2 my favourite time of the day would have been sunrise and sunset, sat at her stern watching her wake as she ploughed through the oceans and watching as the sun rose/set and seeing the stars appear/disappear and working out the constellations. You just cannot beat sunsets on a clear evening at sea, magical :) :)

My favourite time was about 6am I used to get up and go out on 1 deck aft and grab an earlybird breakfast.  I especially loved being transatlantic and seeing nothing but choppy seas.  Wish I was there.  :'(

I would have to say my favorite time when I was on board was the middle of the night!  It was my first trip alone and I thought it was great that I could wander the ship at all hours - it was so quiet!  Made for a difficult first few nights in London though - as I was so tired from staying up the entire night we came up the English Channel!

After the midnight snacks in the Lido, up to the Yacht Club, maybe a night cap, stroll through the Grand Lounge and say 'Hello' to the casino, around through the Crystal Bar, say goodnight to a few still in the Golden Lion and upstairs to the Boat deck, have a look at the sea and stars, wish her, 'Goodnight QE2, and sleep well '. My favourite time of day on board.

Morning.
After a blissfully comfortable sleep, waking up to the day's first view of the magnificent ship and saying (sorry to those in the adjacent cabins...)  Yes!  YES!  Goodmorning!  I am aboard QE2!!  Life is beautiful!  And I have an entire day of excitement and adventure ahead of me!

Bedtime.
The anticipation of crawling into one of those wonderfully comfortable beds knowing I'll have a perfects night's sleep accompanied by the QE2 lulluby.... the soft creaks and groans of this marvel of a ship at speed, the gentle and pleasing hummmmm coming from somewhere... the easy motion of the ship herself..., and reflecting what a heck of a day I had.  The sights, the sounds, the tastes,   the friends...  and looking forward to it all happening again tomorrow!!

Morning. I am not an early riser at the best of times, and still less on holidays... but I just could not resist the lovely relaxed breakfasts in Britannia Grill. Catching up with my Mum just before she had finished hers, and with the waiters just before they gently stopped serving and started tidying up and organising the tables for lunch. One lovely bit of breakfast appearing after another -- and right up to the final day, the bliss of the choices on offer!

Late afternoon. A swim in the pool after most people had gone in to change for dinner. The sunset astern. And the clouds drifting past as I floated on my back in the middle of the pool, feeling the throb of the engines. A glass of green tea gathered up as I walked through the Lido in my bath robe. And a lovely relaxed bath before changing into my evening wear.

Midnight. A remote table in the Lido, a chat with some of the crew on duty, a game with Pia, a wee snack and another cup of tea, followed by something stronger, and a look at the internet. The relief of no longer wearing formal clothes. And a stroll round the decks, wind in my hair, the smell of the sea, the chug of the engines and a warm and comfortable bed to look forward to!   :D

Used to love the time before going to bed around 11pm. The little cafeteria part of the Lido that did tea, coffees and hot chocolate. That was an amazing wee place. Loved the hot chocolate and the cookies that were on offer. Made an evening complete.

That was rather a nice time of day on board QE2.   What was good about the Lido was it was easy to get to from either the Grand Lounge area, the Yacht Club, on deck or whether you were on the ship.

I must admit that I never think about going to the Lido for a late night snack when onboard QV whereas I always did on QE2

Never did I go for a late night snack on QM2. The QE2 had that charm with the little station open in the Lido till very late. QM2 couldn't replicate that.

The sail away was also a favourite time of day on QE2.  Most people were up on deck and I just loved the atmosphere.

Mine was the moment l opened my eyes after a gentle sleep and knowing where l was and that the whole day was mine aboard the greatest ship in the world. Then again going for a walk round the decks about 6ish.. the ship was lovely and quiet and the first g&t wasnt too far away.. ;)  the worst day was always disembarkation day..

This would probably be the answer from most of us if we had a  topic on what was the worst time of day. :(

A morning jog around the Boat Deck, the smell of fresh sea air and the realization that I was somewhere in the  mid-Atlantic; afternoons exploring the QE2, eventually ending up at tea in the Queen's Lounge; exceptional service, food, wine and interesting conversation at dinner; late nights with friends and finally a few minutes under the stars to say good night to the sea.  I guess my favorite time was waking up in the morning knowing I could do it all over again.   :)
Whenever I hear a sea story I think of the first time I saw the QE2 and the great adventures that followed.
