What an excellent idea to use a video and show all the different areas of the ship! I took quite a few photos, but with the sheer size of the model, each of them only gives a partial view.

I like this one, as it gives an idea of the size, with the young boy beside the model. He was talking to his dad, and the most important question for him was "Did she sink, Daddy?". I suppose after the Titanic film, that is what all good ships are really supposed to do...!

I never really looked properly at the picture behind the model... something I regret now... good thing we have the Forum to allow us to catch up with some of our omissions!

And here is the Caronia (Green Goddess) model, right beside the Mauretania model :

What a great video of that model. The details are amazing! Was it made to show the owners what the vessel would actually look like and who was responsible for looking after it, say a bulb blew and needed replacing?

That is a really good question, Jem! :)

Who did take care of the models - and how and when?
The alleyways and all public areas were cleaned very thoroughly in the wee small hours
and I often saw the model cases and glass being polished
but no-one seemed to open them to go 'inside'
There were so many of them, too!

... you will find this explanation by edowds :

These models were made by John Brown Shipbuilder who made the final product and are one offs, a Glasgow museum is lucky enough to have the original 3 Queen models which are fantastic ..............

... as well as his own picture of the three similarly huge John Brown models (QM, QE and QE2) in their glass cage in the Glasgow Transport Museum.

Thanks Isabelle. :) I assume John Brown's had their own specialist model makers section? Or was the work contracted out?

That is sad. Lots of days of 40+ degree heat will no doubt have caused havoc.

Removing it isn't easy, however, and involves removing all the handrails for the nearby stairs.

Is it in its original position or has it been moved to the consolidation area

I would think it would still be in it's display case in my opinion.

I read on another site that all of the artifacts had been moved to a safe consolidation area
