Wasn't QE2 given the nick-name 'Pig' with Caronia as Piglet?

(Why Pig? Wasn't this because of her response to the helmsman's actions!!)

Ah, thanks for that Rosie, though I don't recall we ever got a definitive response as to the reason behind the name so the quest continues...

I suspect different people might have had different reasons for calling her the black pig!!  As long as not too many passengers called her that!

I have only just discovered this thread about QE2 names. I do know that she was referred to as a "dog of a ship" to handle at low speed because her propellers were situated well forward of the rudder which reduced the efficiency of steering at low speed.

I know this because it was raised in a discussion I had on the bridge with the pilot and master of QE2 when she was approaching port on one occasion. I hasten to add that both the pilot and the master spoke with utmost affection for the ship in all respects except this ship-handling question!
