One saving grace - it says this monstosity is too big to ever enter port anywhere ( wonder how they're going to build it, then.. ) so at least it'll be out of sight!

I did wonder what they plan to do at dry docking time??

Can you imagine what that would be like in 'a bit of a blow' and being unable to find a safe harbour?

I think I'll pass thank you!

Relating to my previous posting, that particular monstrosity has just assaulted my eyes in the newspaper today!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10482144/Floating-city-Plan-for-40000-people-to-live-on-the-high-seas.html

Interesting, though, that what is effectively a mile long aircraft carrier built by the private sector carries the same price tag as the two much smaller public sector carriers being built at the moment....!!

My goodness, this so-called Freedom Ship looks just as attractive as a prison!

A floating Alcatraz...?

They've just dusted this concept off to give it another spin - it was in the news a couple of years ago (given how time flies, it may even have been longer ago). I reckon there'll be a lot of water under the bridge before this ship gets off the ground!

They really should learn not to build all these flats in flood plains these days...

Hi Peter - I agree.  Also, I need to take back my comment about a painted whale.  I rather like whales and I am afraid I have gravely insulted them by likening the "painted thing" to a whale.  It is beyond me how anyone can see any beauty in flood plain flats !  June

At least they have painted her colourfully to distinguish her from the buildings behind. She has some nice bits but the whole does look like a block of flats. I think it's the balconies that American cruisers seem to like.
I have recently cruised in the OOSTERDAM and had a cabin with no balcony. I laughed when the Americans complained they could not use their balconies because it was too cold (south Tasman Sea in early November).

Actually this could solve a huge housing problem on the Somerset Levels?

The headlines yesterday were that the Army had been called in to help in Somerset; wouldn't the Navy have been more appropriate...?
