Looking for Alistair - one of QE2's engineers
« on: Aug 18, 2010, 10:59 AM »
Hello:

I stumbled onto your website looking for some history of QE2 and I am wondering if you might know the name of a man I met in May on Queen Mary from Hamburg to NY.

He was my table mate all week and I never got his last name...but his first name was Alistair and he was maybe 67 or so; was born and raised in Scotland but now lives in Boston.  He worked for many years as engineer on the QE2.

Any info would be appreciated.

I share your love of ocean liners.

Hello Barbara Gilbertson!

Just a thought!
If you can remember your table number (possibly on the Sommelier's receipts), then maybe you could give Cunard the details and ask if they could supply him (Alistair)  with your name and email address  :)
In this way, if he is wishing to contact you, then he can.
Otherwise his need for privacy can be maintained. 8)

Hopefully you will reap rewards from your 'stumble!'

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

There was an engineer onboard in the 80's named A. Horsburgh. Sorry, but I cannot remember if his forename was Alistair though.

hope that helps,

cheers Davey.
