Thank you, Jem, for this intriguing and touching video! I have just replaced the link with that of version 2, since in the first version sound and picture did not match (something corrected by WeareCunard in this second video).

I finally found the write-up on We are Cunard itself, and it is a lovely story -- particularly since it includes one of my favourite QE2 Captains, Nick Bates! Read more here :

No idea whether the gallant four-man team managed to beat the record they were after, nor whether they raised sufficient funds for the charities they wanted to support. But the encounter of big and small in mid-Atlantic is the sort of thing that would have been made to happen for QE2 as well. The legend lives on in this story, I find... maybe it took an ex-QE2 Captain to do this  ;D  !

Great video!  QM2's whistle sounded impressive too in the background.

Hi Everyone..... I have just returned from my Grand Norwegian Voyage aboard Queen Mary 2 and I was on board when this meeting with the Artemis Investment boat took place...... my friend and I watched from deck 7 near Kings Court in the mist and fog.   what a sight it was.... Captain Nick said it was like finding a needle in a haystack .   We watched as the QM2's rescue boat with 2 crew, an officer and the videographer were lowered into the ocean and went over to talk to the guys on Artemis....they couldn't get too close.... no contact at all... they told us through the phone to Capt Nick about some of their experiences so far.... a few friendly whales... the boat capsized twice, one man fell overboard, their bottoms were sore from all the rowing and one man had an ingrown toenail that they had to do surgery on with a swiss army knife !  We cheered and sang to them and then with a few blows from the whistle, we started back on our way.  For a while, they rowed in our wake....
It was an experience I won't forget.
