Robin's answers to our questions are now available via a link on the main www.TheQE2story.com web site.  The direct link to the page is www.theqe2story.com/features/RobinWoodall.html.

I have unlocked this topic again, so that we can all post our feedback about his answers.

The one that most amazes me, is about the new penthouses and big funnel catching the wind more - that had never even occurred to me!

Thanks again to Robin, Richard and everybody for their questions.

I missed this thread or I would have asked the following question. Perhaps someone else knows the answer to...
It was rumoured that either the Captain or ship's security officers (SPO's) had access to firearms onboard.
Was this true?

That turned into a very fine page.

Congratulations and thanks to all concerned -- Robin and Richard Woodall, Rob Lightbody and Michael Gallagher. This page is a real asset to the QE2Story Forum!

I'm interested that QE2 got her good feeling "as the years went by". Perhaps not from the outset, perhaps not from the outset of the "new QE2" either... Which may mean for the future that, as QM2 gathers some patina, she too may develop some good feeling of her own, which may mature over the years and endear her to her passengers and crew... perhaps...

I have heard this too, from other people who were very fond of QE2. And would myself have much preferred it to the original Dubai plans.

I wonder when Captain Woodall thinks the moment for scrapping would have come... December 2008? Earlier? Later?

What a priviledge and opportunity to share these  with a former Captain. Well done to everyone involved for setting it up, the questions and of course Captain Woodall for such frank answers. I'm only sorry I was away at the time.

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for what seemed like ages...Please don't leave her looking more like a Hotel-with-a-Hull than the greatest Liner afloat - Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

Yes, thanks Capt. Woodall. Pity you would rather see QE2 like this though:

It was bad enough to see the SS France/Norway being eaten away by those poor dismantlers in deplorable working conditions in Alang.  I could not bear to watch our ship meet this end.  Someone from the UK would have to step in and save the ship.  There would also be asbestos issues to deal with.  Let's not go there......

Sorry for the delay in this Rob but I've been tied up with other things for a couple of weeks - Great to have the answers to the questions and a big thank you for putting my question and answer first on the list  a real honour!

The ability to be able to ask these questions just shows what a fantastic resource this forum has turned into - well done Rob!

Yes they did.
Frequently when they started carrying Bomb Disposal Officers. (EOD)These Officers where armed during embarcation.
I remember after a late departure from Soton, the Officers had a darts match in the Wardroom against 2 deck "Pig" The EOD Officer was throwing like a blind man. I kept on telling him to take his jacket off! He took me to one side and showed me why....he still had his .38 Smith and Wesson on!
