Hi to all our fellow QE2 admirers.
We are Steve and Mark who first sailed on QE2 back in the late 1970's, well Steve did at least, he managed three trips before I joined him in November 1980 for our first cruise together to the Canary Islands, our cabin or should I say stateroom number was 1094.
We were fortunate to sail on the "Final Voyage to Dubai" in that very same cabin!
After our first trip in 1980 we then sailed in May 1981 to Norway and again that same year to the Canary Islands again. We were booked on again in May 1982 to sail to the Mediterranean but as we packed our suitcases the day before the news broke that the ship had been requisitioned to go to the Falkland Islands. A couple of years later we moved to Spain where we still live today running a small restaurant. Thoughts of sailing ended for a few years, well for 24 years actually, then we decided to do a transatlantic crossing on QM2 in November 2005. Our love of Cunard was rekindled and once again we now can't stop sailing with them.
We booked the winter transatlantic crossing to New York on QE2 in January 2008 sailing in tandem with the new Queen Victoria. We had actually just disembarked from the QV after sailing on the maiden Christmas voyage. We sailed into New York along with Queen Mary 2 as well, the first time the three Cunard Queens met. We then transferred to QM2 and sailed out of NY harbour to the Caribbean. It was the trip of a lifetime and the highlight being back once again on the QE2.
We made a video during the "Final Voyage to Dubai" here is the link for anybody that would care to watch it :-
http://gallery.me.com/barelsol/100030I'm afraid it takes quite a while to download as it's 50 minutes long so be patient. Don't forget I'm no Stephen Spielberg, it's just our home movie.
We hope you enjoy it and look forward to hearing what you all think.
Regards
Steve & Mark
