And what was kind of unbelievably magical, in this vestry still sea, as the two ships got so close you could hear the passengers across the way, a family (group?) of dolphins broke the calm waters and played between the  two ships just as QM2 was about to overtake QE2.  Truly magical.

Hi Scott
Good to see you, btw! What a wonderful description of the pond!.
Just wondering how long it was, before the conditions changed?
To see each of the ships actually reflected in the Atlantic Ocean must have been a very rare treat!
The pod of dolphins must have loved having two bows to 'beat across', and two wakes to dance over, too!
All the best to you
Rosie

It would have been a rare treat for the Atlantic Dolphins to be able to bow surf on QE2. At normal crossing speed they would have had a hard time keeping up.

Dolphins? what Dolphins..

Given the speeds on the crossing, and how superfast we were going  ;) its a wonder they never over took us   ::)

The photos of the wake..tell the story of speed (or perhaps lack of it...)

I did wonder just how close the ships would  come for within safety reasons, some of us were hoping for a bit closer still.

Would be great to see some photos.

Myles, I've tried to replicate your latest set of images with those I took roughly at the same time whilst onboard QM2.  (whilst Ventura passed us the assembled masses provided us with a tuneless rendition of "agga doo" or what ever its called - QM2's riposte was a good blast of Pomp & Circumstance)

And finally, the money shot(s)

The majesty of Queen Elizabeth 2, I do have many, many others from this crossing as well as the final eastbound

(Note: all images posted are low resolution, these last two I have purposely added a watermark of my own as similar ones have been used elsewhere without permission!)
