QE2 presence on the Cruising Queens

 This is about the artwork etc transferred to QE from QE2....

Those copy prints of those 2 wonderful paintings on QE2. the one of the Queen Mother and The Queen and Prince Philip....I'm sure it was A Stairway...

They are in the Queens Room on QE..much smaller of course...but to be honest I really don't care for them..they just look so artificial somehow after seeing the originals on QE2....  And of course thats what has been done on the other 2 Queens as well......just copies....I'm no Art connoisseur  but I don't think there is half as much original artwork on the new Queens as what QE2 had do you?

Also the Royal Standard from QE2 Queens room looks somewhat smaller...or is it because it's in a smaller frame.. I hope its not a copy as well....but it doesn't look too good either....somehow I feel the things taken from QE2 to put on the new ship was an afterthought as where they are placed around the ship are very insignificant...you would walk past the Royal Standard whereas on QE2 they were pride of place in huge frames....they were taken off QE2 on the final day from Southampton on 11 Nov 08 supposedly to be restored to their former glory.  ( sure don't look like it on QE)

And don't mention that Bust of HM....the new gilding colour and position......I will say no more....I wish they had just left her where she belonged......but then what state would they be in if anything like the bell?


If I had never seen them on QE2 this probably wouldn't bother me at all.

The exception is that wonderful Silver Model of QE2 now in pride of place in the yacht club on QE....I wish I could remember what the signal flags spell out...Michael did tell me but I have since forgotten...I know it's something wonderful about our QE2 and rightly so!

I assume this bell on its stand is Not the focastle bell. So, a question, what bell is this? The fo'castle bell is part of the ship's equipment (I think) but a ship can have other bells, some hers and some from former ships of the fleet.
2. I never saw the silver model of QE2, as it was put about about ten years after I had my only voyage in her in 1989.
The builders plate is quite another thing, I thought it was always an integral part of the ship to show who built her. However the engines and other machinery aboard also have their own maker's plates. Another forlorn ship missing her builder's plate is United States, hers was sold years ago, as was much of her bridge equipment, in fact she is missing lots of stuff, interior fittings and all sorts.
If Cunard has purchased these things back to adorn their new Vista, I hope Nakheel charged them heaps, especially for the builder's plate. I am with Rob on this one, the jewels are being robbed while the lady still lives.
I know there were certain things which were on loan to QE2, such as the painting of the Mauretania and paintings by Stephen Card. The silver model might also be in this category.

The Mauretania painting was taken off the ship in Newcastle in 2008. It is currently on display in a local museum.

The paintings referred to of the Queen Mother and the current Queen were in the First Class Stairwell, on Quarter Deck.

The bust of the Queen greets people on their arrival into the Queen's Room. It's a different position to that occupied on QE2, but that isn't necessarily a problem. In my view, that is. The two ships are different, so of course things are set out differently.

The builder's plate is safe now. If and when the QE2 ever makes it into a "safe" port in the future, then it can be returned. I'd rather see it safe on the wrong ship than in danger on the right ship.

There is a real risk that the QE2 will be scrapped or suffer a self immolation in the way that 552 did. She is currently a huge liability for Nakeel.

Oh, and it makes sense that the QE is hogging the headlines at the moment. She is new, and newsworthy. I have little doubt that if any real news of QE2 were to occur, then her picture would be on the front page of every newpaper in the county. Especially if she were to come back to the UK.

Don't hate QE simply because she isn't QE2. She never will be, and nor will anything else. QE2 is a ship the like of which we will never see again.

I think the small copies of the paintings on the First Class Stairwell are pretty awful however. Let's have the real thing, or nothing.

Today on MV Queen Elizabeth -
QE2's bell was looking and sounding beautiful.
The bust of HRH Queen Elizabeth II has been re-gilded beautifully and is looking superb.
Asprey's  silver model of QE2 is gleamimg,
and her Builder's plate has been polished.
I would guess that her call sign GBTT was also being well used as QE 'blew' into the 'Port of Rome (Civitivecchia).

As reported on Cunardcritic.com, the Laconia Cup, which commemorates the first actual World Cruise of a Cunarder in 1922-1923, has made its way onboard the Victoria.    http://cunardcritic.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=6352  I wonder if it is on loan like the other artifacts that are on Elizabeth.



My grandfather emigrated to the United States on the Laconia in 1927 so we thought that was pretty cool to see that commemorative cup onboard QE2.  The Laconia was torpedoed and sunk in WWII with Italian POW's onboard, who were rescued by the U-Boats, but later bombed by American bombers in what has become known as the Laconia Incident.

Queen Elizabeth was looking good in Southampton yesterday.

Regarding the pennants in her Yacht Club - although there was hardly enough time to look more thoroughly,
it seems that the importance of their message may not be easily recognised.
Please flagship - have I missed something?!
Or, for example, do you think it could be helpful to have an easily spotted 'translation' framed on one of the bulkheads?

It was lovely to find pictures of QE2 on board - 'think she'd be very pleased!
