Sounds great!  I'm looking forward to seeing this space especially.
Without giving anything away - you will be delighted with what you will find in the Yacht Club. Well, I hope you will. And the flags will make a statement that will underline QE2's importance. Not long to wait for now! ;)

Wild Guesses!
The flags - the reading on the 'speedo' as she 'finished with engines' (repeated!)?

The model does have a white funnel....
(Just can't wait..... :)
QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

I wonder about the flags in the background -- are they just pretty decorations, or do they have a deeper significance?

A VERY special significance Isabelle.....YOU will love it!

The flags shown are considered pennants.  Flags are more sqaure and pennants have the shape shown.  The sequence is repeating and what significance it has, I have no clue.

Starting from the left of the photo and continuing right the pennants are:

8, 2, 7, 1 9, 5, 8, 2, 7, 1, 9, 5 and so on.

I believe the seven and nine pennants in the picture are upside down.

And Bob - the nine looks as if one 'quarter' is green instead of black

The flags shown in the rendering bear no relation to reality - just like the model shown in the rendering!

And I also meant to say - look out for something very special in the Queens Room and something on Staircase B (or is it Staircase C?)

I have to say I like the look of the interiors of the QV and the QE a lot more than I like the look of their exteriors.

Michael - have sent you a PM on the subject.  ;)

Wondering now whether it will not only be those lovely royal blue chairs with gold piping
but also Oscar Nemon's bust of HM The Queen?

[If the Queen's bust has been transferred to Queen Elizabeth, s'pose there might be a wee crumb of humble pie for supper! ;)]

To find the bronze bust of The Queen that was cast by Oscar Nemon (?specifically for that position on QE2), being used to decorate another "Queen's" Room would seem downright inappropriate!

I am curious to see the if the Yacht Club just has mementos of QE2 or, if in design and feel it feels reminiscent of the original room?

I also have my ideas about what might be in the glass case ... Looking forward to seeing what it turns out to be!

I don't see how it could feel like the original room, without those awesome parallelogram wood framed windows - they made the room in my view!

As long as they havent got that dreadful sail things, they were a dust trap.
There is only one yacht club, and we know where it is.

From the artist rendering there are the sails-things.  That's what made me wonder if the interior design had taken design inspiration from QE2's yacht club.  I am not talking LITERAL, boys.  I just meant in spirit. Geesh!  ;)

e.g., QM2's original chart room felt to me inspired inspired by QE2's and whenever I was in it I couldn't help but think of QE2s.  I never felt like I was in the same room, but I could feel the connection.  That's what I'm interested to see.

And the glass case....

I agree with you entirely, Rob - and the sails, too.

These are what gives QE2's windows such great and unique character -

(From some of the recent images taken in Port Rashid,
it looks as if there might be blinds or curtains inside the stern windows of the Yacht Club

Hopefully the sails are being well protected - not sure what type of materials they were made from....)

Thanks to all photographers

Really random idea...I may be reading in-between the wrong lines...

Could the silver Apsley model from the Midships Lobby be making a comeback in the new Yacht Club?

It'd explain why the model in the picture is so nondescript...

Interesting thought, Greg
Or - as centrepiece in The Grand Lobby perhaps?

Who knows were and how it is now?

Recreating this look on QE really is a "must do" in any Cunard Yacht Club "recreation".  Easy to execute and certainly must be well within the decorating budget to do so.

Heck, give me an afternoon and a bolt of fabric and I'll have it done!   :D

hmmm....  I'm guessing HM QE II's bust and RMS QE's bell?   :)

Is somebody making midnight trips to Dubai with a large carry-on bag?

(question for the Mods... Why am I listed as the topic starter?  I didn't start this topic  :o)

Would QE be able to display a Royal Standard somewhere onboard, since HM will have been onboard? (I'm assuming she'll be going onboard on launch day to inspect the ship...)

I can't remember the exact circumstances in which QE2 acquired hers in the Queens Room, nor whether QM2 has any displayed onboard. (She was boarded by HM QEII upon her naming, I believe, and thus would have flown one while the Queen was onboard?) I don't remember if QV has any standards, or if Camilla has one that could theoretically be displayed. (I do pretty good at British esoterica for an American, but I'm not 100%!)

Tangential to that...IIRC, QE2's standards were removed while still in Cunard colours, and would thus, I assume, be in Cunard's possession. Could QEII's standard from QE2 be placed on QE(II) because QEII has been on QE(II), thus bringing a totally hassle-free piece of QE2 on QE(II)?

(Now say that five times fast. :P)
