Marco Polo in a spot of bother up in N Norway...
http://maritimematters.com/2014/11/marco-polo-around-in-northern-norway/
QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

Thanks for the alert!  A comment on that story from Peter Newall says that she was freed yesterday, which I hope is the case!  I'd love to go on Marco Polo I think.

Poor Marco Polo is having a time of it, getting hit by a wave and grounding twice in a short space of time.  Let's hope there are no more problems for her now.  I do believe she was freed from the grounding by her own engines and some tugs.  There was a comment in our local newspaper saying it appeared she was too close to the rocky shore.

Recently  two days on Marco Polo and I really liked her. It was good to be n a solid, well-built vintage ship. Food and service were what you'd expect for the fares you pay but the ship herself wins you over. A bit like another lady we used to sail on....

We have received the following message in the Admin mailbox :

Good day,

I discovered your forum while doing a search on the Alexandr Pushkin (now Marco Polo). The Port of Montreal will welcome the Marco Polo on August 13. 50 years ago, the Alexandr Pushkin did its maiden voyage between St-Petersburg and Montreal. The Port of Montreal, together with the Montreal Cruise Committee and the shipping line, will organize a lunch onboard and I would like to get in touch with people living in Montreal or surrounding area who have traveled on the Alexandr Pushkin and would like to join us for the celebration.

Best regards,

Yves Gilson

And of course, looking forward to any reports. I am glad to see that Marco Polo is being properly celebrated! If I got the chance to take another cruise some time soon, she would be my ship of choice :) .

Yves has written again and added this about our mention above :

Thank you very much. It is highly appreciated. I don’t know of other fora but if you have some hints, please let me know.
I will send you pictures of the event. Two tug boats will welcome the Marco Polo with a water show. The entrance should be spectacular.

Can we recommend any other fora to him where he might issue his invitation?

Yves Gilson has come back with the news :

Quote from: Yves Gilson
The return of the former Alexandr Pushkin to Montreal on August 13 has been a great success. Lot of media coverage and a lot of noise on social media. Attached you will find some pictures as the vessel was arriving at the cruise terminal. It was welcomed by a water show. A lot of passengers gathered on the upper deck to see the show.

Best regards,

Yves Gilson

He included five marvellous photos to upload here. Doesn't Marco Polo look beautiful -- long may she continue to sail the high seas!

Many thanks, Yves! I am so glad that the occasion was thoroughly enjoyed.

She was anchored off Kirkwall, Orkney when we were there in June.

Fine looking vessel - nice sheer!

Good to know everything went to plan.  She is a lovely looking ship.

Do you know that a ex-Chief Enigeneer of the Marco Polo was part of the Ukrainian crew onboard QE2 in 2013/2014?

Oh dear... Shippax reports that Marco Polo has been put up for sale :

http://www.shippax.com/en/news/marco-polo-has-been-put-up-for-sale-.aspx

The article begins like this :

Quote
Cruise : It looks like the end of the line for one of the world’s oldest and much loved cruise ships. The 1965-built MARCO POLO has been put up for sale by her Greek owners, Global Maritime Group, for MUSD15 and will make her final voyage for the UK’s Cruise & Maritime Voyages on 6 May 2018.

To read the rest of the article, one has to log into the site.

Time to book that Marco Polo voyage...  :(

Having sailed on this ship I would urge people to sail her before the end. She is a real gem of a ship!

I've already posted this elsewhere, but I figured I'd better add a note here:

Marco Polo voyages are now listed up until November 2018, so apparently the May end date isn't happening (rejoice)!

On another note, the Astoria has voyages listed in early 2018 as well, so apparently it will not be leaving the CMV fleet forever in 2017.

I do hope CMV's website is correct. That would be an embarrassing typo.

CMV confirmed to me in a Facebook comment that Marco Polo would be sailing throughout 2018. I cannot remember the exact wording (Facebook is like that -- it would be hard to find again), but I took it to mean the whole year.
