The text in this topic, is regularly and repeatedly being literally copy & pasted by another site, and re-used without any mention of where it was copy & pasted from.  You can test this by taking a sentence or two and putting it in quotes, and sticking it into Google.

Just shows what a great open and public resource this is for everybody interested in QE2.

We are steadily becoming the number one resource for information on QE2 and welcome the fact that other internet sites are using the forum for information.  We encourage members to abide by internet etiquette, but unfortunately it looks like the sites that are copying the information do not now the importance of etiquette on the internet.  Instead of copying and pasting what our members have worked hard to accomplish it would be more appropriate to link to the QE2 Story page and give credit.  After all we all have the same aim, which is to keep the memory of QE2 alive.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Having clicked on Rob's link I can see that the top three results are indeed pirated from here, and I don't even have to open any of the three results to see who the pirate is; the tag line gives it away...  Let's just say that ( as I expected before even clicking the link! ) it's someone who recently walked the plank...

From what I can tell, the site is "open" and so anyone with a Facebook account can comment. Now, I'm not suggesting any of us add a link back to this topic on this forum. I'm just thinking out loud, as it were...... ;)

She became the longest serving Cunarder on 4 September 2005 when in Sydney, Canada. It said so on the daily programme that day!

Matthew

I don't believe this is entirely correct.  A the risk of heresy QE2 was actually the 6th longest serving vessel as a" Cunard Line" ship and eighth of all vessels under the Cunard Steamship umbrella.  The longest "Cunard Line" ship was Skirmisher at 61 years.

I recall that wherever the longevity claim was made by Cunard they added the caveat of Express Liner, therefore QE2 was the longest serving Express Liner.

CAP is correct –  4 September 2005 was celebrated as the day QE2 became the longest-serving express Cunard vessel ever. It’s always in the wording!

My research discovered five other ships with more service than QE2. However, all five ships with 40+ years of service were not Atlantic or ‘express’ liners – some were tender boats delivering passengers, mail and cargo to fleetmates.

Ships with over 25 years Cunard (only) service and (for comparison) where the first Queen Elizabeth ended:

Skirmisher      61 years   (1884 – 1945)

Satellite         54 years   (1848 – 1902)

British Queen      49 years   (1849 – 1898)

Aleppo         44 years    (1865 – 1909)

Otter         40 years   (1880 – 1920)

Queen Elizabeth 2      39½ years (1969 – 2008)

Aquitania         36½ years (1914 – 1950)

Scythia         36½ years (1921 – 1958

Jackal         35+ years (1853 – 1888)

Samaria         34 years   (1868 – 1902)

Cherbourg       34 years    (1875 – 1909)

Samaria         34 years   (1922 – 1956)

Franconia         33 years   (1923 – 1956)

Marathon         32 years   (1860 – 1892)

Ascania         32 years   (1925 – 1957)

Alaunia         32 years   (1925 – 1957)

Queen Mary      31 years    (1936 – 1967)

Pavia          31 years   (1897 – 1928)

Tyria          31 years   (1897 – 1928)

Cypria         30 years   (1898 – 1928)

Palmyra         30 years   (1866 – 1896)

America         29 years   (1848 – 1877)

Mauretania      28½ years (1907 – 1935)

Mauretania      26 years    (1939 – 1965)

Trinidad         26 years   (1872 – 1898)

Bresica         26 years    (1903 – 1929)

Caronia         26 years   (1905 – 1931)

Carmania         26 years   (1905 – 1931)

Queen Elizabeth      22 years    (1946 – 1968)

Thanks to CAP for bringing this to our attention and to Flagship for clarifying the wording.  What a fantastic information resource we are gathering.

I have updated the timeline above.  I will also move the information on Cunard ships with over 25 years service over to Sea Shanties once everyone gets a chance to read the information.

I have just double-checked my information and as a result I believe there is an injustice to QE2.

It is correct that she did celebrate the passing of Scythia's in-service milestone on 4/9/05. However, Scythia was not an express liner, she was one the intermediate liner fleet and appears to have operated on a number of routes none of which where the express route of Southampton Cherbourg New York and return.

QE2's nearest express liner in terms of length of service was Aquitania which I believe she overtook at the end of 2004 (I have a date of 5/11/04 but cannot confirm this).

In addition I've attached a pdf file listing all "Cunard Line" vessels with at least 25 years service.  I did notice from flagship's list a couple which are missing.

Hi Rob

Not too sure whether these videos are already here - you note the event in the Timeline...
If it is, you may wish to delete/move the post.
After our wonderful weekend on the Clyde, it seemed a good thing to watch.
Hope too, that the people looking after QE2 in Dubai will also have the chance to see how QE2 has been regarded
ever since 1968 - Her Royal Highness!

Hi Rob - Does this need to be recorded in the TimeLine - also possibly under another Topic;
one associated with Project Lifestyle perhaps? Please excuse me if it's here already!

On 5 September 2005, QE2 became Cunard's longest serving express vessel.  Was anyone aboard around that time ?  Do you have any special remembrances ?  and do you have any photos to share with us ?
