Bit wobbly  at the beginning!

Hoping that DXB_QE2 might have a minute or two to take a look at this...... :)

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

What has been said so far, on other threads, was not too flattering...

Considering the SQ call would see 'the Flower of Scotland' in Scottish waters for the last time we hoped they would do more..... Enough said!

And yet, that visit produced one of the really memorable pictures of her :

... for once, using her port side anchor (no idea why I have seen the starboard anchor in use so very much more often...).

This would seem to confirm previous reports!
Add the midges in to the mix...Bit soggy.

There is a write-up of the piper, here :

... and another video of the QE2's visit here, showing some of the turn-out to see her for the final time, with mixed feelings expressed, and ending with her whistle, sounding mournful as she sails away :

We cruised into the Firth of Forth on the Queen Mary 2 on her maiden call there in July 2004 and were severely disappointed with the low key news of her arrival. It was one of the ports we were looking forward to the most seeing as we live in Fife but turned out to be the most underwhelming port during that voyage. Over 1 million came and saw us arrive and depart in Hamburg and there was also big turnouts in Rotterdam, Bergen, Alesund, it was the QM2's first voyage upto the fjords and everywhere except Edinburgh put on a show for us and really made us feel welcome.

Here's a great image, taken at dusk as she leaves the Firth of Forth, for LIFE magazine

Twinkle,
A great photo, those of us onboard sailed away on what was QE2s last visit to a scottish port with mixed feelings.
There was a lot of talk onboard, was this the last time the ships tenders were used?

Hey Myles,
Yours is an incredibly evocative picture - the rawness of the weather, adding well to the sadness  :'(
She looks so dignified there - and the busy wee tenders...

Her calls after Edinburgh
where the Tenders may have been used were at:
La Rochelle?
Cagliari?
Naples?
Messina?
Dubrovnik?
Zakynthos?
Gibralter?
Vigo?
Alexandria?
Won't she have been tied up in all the other ports, Southampton, Lisbon etc etc
together with perhaps some, if not all of these...?

Please flagship...you will know! :)
Needing your help here, 'you understand'!!

According to the Cunard brochure, the only anchor port following the Round Britain Voyage, was St Peter Port (Guernsey) -- but I have a feeling that there was a problem there that day and she may not finally have called there at all...

If the brochure is right about the other ports, and she did not anchor at St Peter Port on 26 October 2008, then South Queensferry would indeed have been her very last anchor port...

Of course, the ship's tenders may have been used en route for other duties -- and we have seen them used in Dubai as well  :D  .

Hi
I was at South Queensferry from 3pm till she left just watching her turn and turn, The Maid of the Forth was taking people right up to her and the tenders were constantly taking people to and from Hawes Pier which meant you could get quite close to them, I forgot to take photos of them because I was on the slipway further along the forth closer to the QE2. I remember that it

on with the pics

I am currently organising some of the bridgecam pictures I had not yet uploaded; these are the pictures of the final months of QE2's Cunard life.

The pictures for her final call to South Queensferry / Edinburgh are here :

If you click on them, you get a slightly larger version with a bit of text.
