Final call to New York City, two years ago today, hard to believe.

The final part of this lovely video shows QE2 in the dusk as she sails away. And the effect of the portholes makes her seem like an object illuminated from within, with the light shining out of all the filigree openings peppered across the ship.

I had the moving experience, just over ten years ago, of standing on the quay in Mumbai at night when she departed, and the light she spread around her was of such warmth that the image has stayed with me, all these years. Some of the dock workers looking on together with me asked me to send them copies of my rather poor photographs, because they too were touched by the radiance of the ship.

maybe it's because one video seems to lead onto the next

Phillip Sherman's video of QE2's final departure from New York. The video starts with views from an aircraft flying overhead, but later when you see the ship departing the video captures the excitement and atmosphere.  Phillip hopes you enjoy watching !

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Great photos, my wife and I were on that crossing, we'd just arrived on the QM2, amazing memories...I think I can see myself in one of the pictures!

Sorry to dredge this up, that's one of my Dad's videos! He recorded it completely handheld with his Canon XHA1 semi-professional video camera (quite heavy!).
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Always thought that was a wonderful video to watch! One of the best videos showing the final New York departure.

I will pass on your kind words to my Dad, he'll be delighted!

I've attached a photo of the Canon XHA1 camera my dad used (that he still has but mainly uses a newer and better Canon XF305) for this video and all his QE2 videos.

I have just watched the most moving 9 minutes and 09 seconds video of our beloved QE2 leaving New York for the last time.

It is outstandingly beautiful. As a Professional Musician, I have been left slightly moist and teary eyed at the moving setting
of The National Anthem and arrangement of Con Te Partito which accompanied the video.

The power of Music and Image combined says more than we could ever say.

Thank you from a very appreciative Forum member. Well done - it totally got to me.
