Rob, it's possible to delete a tweet ( Hey! That rhymes! ) and then re-issue it; I've done that a couple of times when I made a big spelling error or two...

Better late than never I guess - we've finally got around to uploading this video taken on board the SS Shieldhall of the QE2 arriving in Southampton having been pushed off the Brambles on 11th November 2008. Due to high winds, the Shieldhall had been prevented from getting off her moorings, however we were later rewarded with this grandstand view of QE2's eventual final arrival in Southampton.

Thank you so much for this - it is a superb video.

As we sailed in to Southampton yesterday, it felt very empty and dull despite Queen Victoria, Oriana and Arcadia returning together.
We stared sadly at QE2's old mooring position together with a crew member who had worked on board QE2 for 18 years.
He said that like us, he still misses her greatly.

I urgently need good, clear photos of the final departure that I can use for my talk on Monday.  I'd also need permission for these to be used in the live internet broadcast, and potentially in future online DVD & internet sales of the talk.

Can anyone help?  Specifically QE2 with fireworks overhead, QE2 with poppies being dropped would be good, or QE2 surrounded by all the ships that were there that night.

THANKS

Thanks for those lovely pictures Twynkle.  I remember the day well.  We stayed at the Jurys Inn in Southampton the night before.  We woke early and put Sky News on and saw BREAKING NEWS QE2 grounded in the Solent.  What a shock we got.  It turned out to be a very odd day.  A mixture of emotions.  The usual excitement of boarding the Queen but the awful sadness of knowing it was the last time we would ever leave Southampton on her.  We stood on one deck aft to watch the fireworks and listen to her lovely whistle blowing.  It was so so sad.   :'( :'( :'(

Rosie, thanks for the reminder of her anniversary of leaving Southampton which does not seem like two years ago. Here is the report on the BBC page on 11 November 2008.

Probably not the right place to post this, but isn't it 2 years today since she left Southampton for the final time? :'(

Yes citrail, it was exactly at this time 2 years ago that she was backing up towards the swinging ground for the fireworks...
One of the coldest, bone-chilling evenings, dark and curiously, the water was still. it was quiet too until the fireworks and then QE2's response with her mighty blasts. These seemed to growl over the water, as she became more and more enveloped in firework smoke.

PS - Thank you, all you Mods!
