ss Norway (ex France) Final Visit to the Clyde 2001
« on: Dec 17, 2009, 07:19 PM »
A short year after her breakers completed the job at Alang here are some memories of Norway during her last visit to the River Clyde in Sept 2001.
These are scans so apologies for the dodgy quality of some of them.
Pics flow from her AM arrival to PM departure.

Hi,

Robert.

Hi Robert, Waverley was sailing on the South Coast (Southampton) at the time. Two trips were organised through Clyde Marine based in the Vic Harbour. Their vessel Cruiser was used in the morning to meet Norway as she arrived (6.30am and it was FREEZING!!) then their veteran passenger ferry Kenilworth was used to bid her farewell in the evening.

I now know where NCL's designers got the inspiration for their new Epic, which has a remarkably similar block of added cabins up above the bridge!  :o

Those extra decks on Norway are the reason that I never became very interested in her.  To my eyes she was never as attractive as the QE2, and the extra decks just ruined her.  Even with my adult head telling me that this was once the Mighty France, I still never found myself able to have a great interest in her...

Great photos of her on the Clyde though, I would probably have made the effort to go and look at her had I known it was my one and only chance to see her.
