QE2 virtual cabin plan (cabins occupied by Forum members)

A couple of years ago, on the Concorde forum, a "virtual seat plan" was created by everyone saying which seat(s) they had flown in on Concorde, and when, the aim being to see what the "spread" was and which were the most popular seats.

I suggest we could easily do the same on here by listing which cabins we have sailed on QE2 in, and when.

I'll kick off with mine:

Cabin 5050, Southampton 1st September 2002 - Civitavecchia 7th September 2002.

I don't see why not.

It would probably be a good idea to indicate the crew as such, like you have done, though - and maybe only list voyage details ( in the format I have done with mine ) for passengers as, obviously, the crew will have sailed to a huge number of destinations.  Perhaps state the dates of service for the crew, though?

What will be really interesting would be if anyone has not just had the same cabin as someone else, but if it was on a consecutive voyage as well; coincidences like that make good reading don't they?

I was thinking how to do this on a website, I could be a web form that logs everyone's responses in a database table, that's pretty easy.

But I'm trying to work out in my head how we could present that graphically, like as a virtual cabin plan.  I'll give it some more thought.................

That would be lovely, Richard - I'm not sure but the virtual Concorde seating plan might still be on that forum, which would show how it was done then.

The only tricky thing really is going to be how to show it clearly when the same cabin is in play more than once.

Probably some sort of colour coding would work.  You'd just do a group by and count in the SQL query.

Now that we have over 640 QE2 fans. It would be good to find out how many of the "members" have travelled onboard the QE2 and which stateroom did you occupy.

I was on deck 2 with Stateroom number 2009 at the front of the ship.   July 2008.

Where were you?    It would be good to see a complete list and to discover if anyone had the same stateroom.

 Unless you know something l dont l havent had 4003, l have been entertained in 4003 but l doubt that counts, and  best if l leave that subject there. 4123 was my last  and of course 4028 my very first cabin. Long after the last views on NY faded in the distance or the storms on the high seas, its my first view of 4028 that is locked in the memory box.
 3006 l have had twice and loved it, as for the rest of the voyages l cant remember off the top of my head, the highest l got was One deck and the lowest was Five deck, but if you give me some time l will come back with the various numbers

Might it be an idea if we could add a photo to the cabin number with details of the grade etc and any cabin comments, or is this going to complicate matters and make for a very long thread.

OK, this one is really going to throw a spanner in the works of the numbering system(and who better to throw the spanner than an engineer!)

In July 2008 my wife and I had Stateroom B2 (the foremost cabin on the Boat Deck, Port Side), but to fit in with the requirement that all suites must have 4 digits, we had to tell everyone we were in 9996. What we actually had was one of the Third Officer's cabins (after we had kicked him out down to a dog kennel on 5 Deck - parental privileges!).

This is very like the cabin my Dad had to use in April 1987, splitting our family group up, after all the cabins on 5-deck were flooded.

Well to be honest l didnt care for the art work in the last photo. But l did like having the curtain on the wall it gave me the impression that there could be a porthole behind there, But it did tend to make the cabin look a bit small, (heck it was small enough anyway) but everything and its location had been clearly thought out. And something l took for granted was that l had plenty of storage space and all the clothes could be hung in the wardrobe and the suitcases would fit under the bed. The pull out writting top was a great addition But all it lacked was a stool to sit on or perhaps a chair. In saying that anytime l did have a chair in  my cabin it was in the way and was used for putting stuff on. The full length mirror was a great touch as well. In fact everything about the cabins semed to have been well thought out.
 Early on during the start of each cruise  l used to have a good look round my cabin, puling out all the drawers, examining the wardrobe, under the bed, in the bathroom and each cabin had its own quirks
 3006 l found seemed to excell in the quirks department, so much so l had it twice.

The only one I can remember that cabin 1019, Princess Grill P1 grade. Was an awesome cabin.....

I finally got around to looking mine up. Some of them I remember very well, and have copious photos -- others are rather more vague in my memory. Here they are :

No the crew cabins on Six Deck were all 4 digits starting with 6001 all the way forward to 6100ish aft.

The cabins on 3,4 and 5 have 3 digits and easy to find, for example cabin numbers between 01 to 30 (if i still recall) are forward cabins 31 to 99 are aft.

24 years ago on Monday coming, my parents and I were meant to be in 5097, but we couldn't because 5 deck was very flooded - so we were in 4174 instead.  Has anyone stayed in either of these rooms, and/or have photos of them?

My dad was put in Cunard's senior engineer's cabin in an inside on 3 deck above, but sadly I can't remember the number.

My first cabin in 1978 was 5014 which I used for a couple of years. I was assigned cabin 5038 in around 1980/81, and I finished my time aboard in 5004 which was great as it had a porthole. I was in there from April 81 till may 82.

For the last couple of months I have had a idea spinning around in my head, and with most of this type of ideas I keep them there for a long time, until I have worked out a lot of the smaller details. What I have in mind is a online web-app, originally I was planning it for to use with the ss Rotterdam, but I would also like to make a QE2 version, the QE2 version will be made first. That is something that I already have decided on doing.


The central idea is that it will be possible to keep track on which voyage a passenger was in which cabin, with that information it will be possible to do a lot of cool things, for example it would also be possible to create a page that displays on which particular voyage, which cabins were occupied. Of which person stayed in which cabin during the service life of the ship.


Other features would be the upload photos, for the specific cabin, given a impression of the cabin through the years. I also have some more ideas spinning around in my head, but I would like to implement those later (working on to much stuff right from the beginning makes coding always a big mess, working with smaller stories is always better).


Is there any form of intrest into this? I know that it would be impossible to have everybody in every single cabin, but I do hope that we can come close.


If we go ahead with this, are there any programmers in the QE2 community willing to help? It would greatly improve the time it takes to complete the project.


Also, it will take a lot of information gathering, for examples all the cabins will need to be mapped, voyages added(although this can also be done on demand when is needed).


If any of you have a idea that you would like to have integrated, please leave it in a comment, and I will add it to the list, and see if it is feasible in the first version, or added at a later stage.

This is a very ambitious project, Bob! It sounds wonderful, and I wish you every success with it. It would be fabulous if it could be done!

Maybe we could start by continuing here what we started in this topic already, i.e. each of us trying to remember when we were on board and which cabins we occupied at the time. If I put my mind to it and search my files, I should be able to do this for myself (perhaps even for my mother and sister too), but this would be relatively easy as we were only on board half a dozen times or so.

Much more difficult for Myles, who seems to have spent half his life on board!

I would be interested to hear what each of us think we can contribute to this four-dimensional (space and time) project.

However, all this information (confidential) is held by Cunard. Pity it's not accessible, for some they'll be glad it's not available!

I can add:

Cabin 5054 on me and my parent's first voyage in August 2003.

Cabin 3005 on our sixth and last voyage in July 2008.

Having trouble finding out the cabins on the inbetween voyages but do know we were on Five, Four, and Three Deck over the years - dining in the Mauretania Restaurant (Upper Deck) on our first couple/few voyages, and in the Caronia Restaurant (Quarter Deck) on at least our last voyage but I think our 2007 voyage too.

It was a 'corner' cabin where the crew alleyway went athwartships before turning to the left and heading aft (where there used to be a very small crew shower cubicle) and other crew cabins.  the cabin i lived in for 4 years cabin 404.The cabins 401,403,406,409 ( each cabin is 4 berth ) are night shift cabins.All the way forward of you can see the sinks in the toilets.

The staircase just outside the cabin 404 leads to the back door from the crewbar.

All the other cabins you see are from the barstaff.

5040 for our October 2004 Iberian cruise from the restaurant seating card and a poster from the Nursery with our cabin number on it.

One of the luggage tags from over the years has 5238 on it although my Dad didn't put the sailing date on it. However by deduction this must've been the cabin we had on our July 2005 Mediterranean Cruise.

After many years of wondering, trying to remember, finding our QE2 stuff we kept in different places over time, and some digging this is the complete list of the cabins my parents and I had over the years we sailed on QE2 as a family:

5040 - October 2004

I also stayed in 1028 (just forward of Traveller's Cove) when revisiting the ship over 3 years ago in late January/early February 2020.
