Our dream not come true, concerned :

  • our very last QE2 port
  • our very last anchor port
  • our very last chance to have an unobstructed view of QE2's exterior
  • our very last sailaway
  • a much awaited final call to a port that QE2 had missed several times
  • a port we had been looking forward to seeing for ourselves
  • a port about which I had known from my girlhood on, as I had a penfriend there
  • a port where we had been promised a Newfoundland Dog, a Labrador Retriever and an Accordion Player
  • a port where we had booked a fascinating excursion...

Can you guess which it was?

A sad day indeed... but of course also a happy day, as we were on QE2!

It was St John's Newfoundland...

We reset our watches by half an hour for this very special port :

... and then, we reset them again in the afternoon, as we continued on our crossing.

We had looked forward to the special day :

Friday 26 September 2008 : St John's

And then, we just steamed on :

It was officially said that the weather had prevented us from anchoring. And it was said by others that we could then steam back more slowly to Southampton, thus saving fuel... Be that as it may, we were sorry to have missed that very special and our final port... but glad to be on board for a few more days!
