Final (Cunard) Voyage Commemorative Items to Crew
« on: Sep 13, 2009, 07:41 AM »
Thought it rather strange that nothing has appeared on this site of the presentations made to the crew on the final Cunard voyage to Dubai. One of my sons was a Kiwi cadet on QE2 in 2007, a third officer for most of 2008, and was on the final voyage.
Attached are photos of some of the items presented to crew after that voyage. You do NOT want to accidentally drop the glass block on your foot! The 3D QE2 image is laser-etched inside the block and is very detailed, but is very hard to photograph.
After 20 years at sea on bulk carriers, (and being passed by the QE2 on numerous occasions), it gave me a lot of pleasure that he started his sea-going career on the best ship possible.

Cheers

The crew also had presented to them a pin badge and a Farewell  fleece top as a personal gift from the Captain as well

Good post and thanks.  I presume the gifts were given by Cunard, whereas the pin and fleece were from IMN as Myles says.  Do you know when they were issued and whether they were presented or just handed out to crew?

And lets not forget the limited edition Wedgewood plates which were given out to passengers on the Farewell trips.
One seller had 65 of the Dubai plates for sale.. he seemingly had them in a bulk load.

Ah yes, of course Myles and thanks for the reminder, although it would be interesting to hear quite how they managed to acquire that many!  We know about the folders, umbrellas etc but what else was 'given' away to guests travelling on that final cruise (or any of the farewell cruises for that matter)? I say 'given', but no doubt the cost was covered in the fare!
