September 2024 : Fondest memories of QE2
« on: Sep 04, 2024, 09:34 PM »
The theme for this month's photo competition is "Fondest memories of QE2", chosen by the Moderating Team.

September is the birthday (i.e. launch) month of QE2, so we wanted this to be an open theme, inviting as many photos as possible. Anyone who has ever caught QE2 on camera and has a fond memory of the occasion, whether watching from land or lucky enough to be on board, is invited to share the memory with us all in this competition.

Some pictures may already be in the QE2 Story Gallery -- if you would like to use any of those for the competition, just let the Moderators know, and we can enter them for you, without removing them from their original albums. We also assume that any photos in the Gallery may be entered in the competition by the Moderators on behalf of the owners / photographer members.

Your description should if possible give some information about when and where the photo was taken.

Photos entered should be your own, or if not, please post them with permission of the photographer, mentioning the name for copyright reasons, and so that the owner can be credited.

Enjoy the search and the memories!

The prize this month is the collection of prize winning photos assembled in a photo book by Lynda Bradford and donated by her.

How to enter

The album is open -- so now is the time to look for pictures of three fondest memories. Wishing you happy times as you search your photo collection to find up to three pictures to upload to the competition album.

This link will take you straight there : Fondest memories of QE2.

If you have not uploaded photos to the Forum Gallery for a while, have a look at these instructions, and if you have any problems or would like us to move a photo from the Gallery into the competition, just contact us on admin@theqe2story.com.

If it helps, you could email the photos to the above address, and we shall gladly upload them for you.

The deadline for submitting photos is 1 November 2024. Voting will run from the beginning of December 2024 until 1 January 2025, until everyone's time zone has caught up with the closing date.

We look forward to seeing your photos in this competition.

This is the first month of photos for the 2026 calendar -- already! Maybe your photo will figure there :) .

Enjoy yourselves!

Wow looking forward to seeing the entries for this month' competition.

September is a special month for QE2 as it commemorates her launch. She became an international icon welcomed in ports around the World and loved by those who sailed on her or admired her from afar.

Help to keep her memory alive by posting your three fondest memories of QE2.

I am donating a copy of the Photo Competition Winners 2011 to 2021 book that is only available as a prize

Once we have all uploaded our photos with our fondest memories of QE2, it will be great to have a discussion on what criteria we each chose to identify these photos. I am sure we all have different memories, and some of them may be even more special than others.

We may all have several dozen photos with our fondest memories, and may find it hard to choose, but for the purposes of this competition, we just need three. Please let us see them and remember QE2 fondly and warmly.

Looks like choosing just three fondest memory photos is a difficult task as there are not many entries so far.  But confident that you will be uploading your photos soon, especially as September commemorates QE2's launch date.

If you haven't uploaded your three Fondest Memories of QE2 photos the good news is the deadline for entries has been extended until 1 November

Dear Lynda , so glad that the deadline has been extended, I really cannot reach a decision on what to post of my limited photos on & around QE2, plus to add to the mix , I renewed my Broadband contract with B T , & new tech stuff is on its way , I will have to install new router & kit, marry laptop , telly, phone (I think) & goodness knows what. I think people who know me  might sympathize , so this extension gives a breathing space , thank you, (& Mods for everything ;) ;))

Good luck, but when it does work its great.  lm sure there are cheaper options out there, but l just stick with what l know . Oh if your getting the black round disk things , you can get upto four of them. l have them dotted round the place and all seems well and fast.
When l think back to the dialup process.........
BT in this day and age and the digital service you would think they would sell a phone that allows you to block a number with a simple touch of a button, but no, dial this number, press that and that again and if there's a power cut, the phones dont work . It didnt help they thought our number had been cloned and we were getting calls from all over saying we had called them.

Just to remind you that this album is still open until the end of this month, which is approaching very rapidly.

Please let us see your fondest memories of QE2, whether of places or scenes on board, or favourite ports you visited, with QE2 in the background, or crew members who looked after you particularly well or who made you laugh. You may have dozens of such wonderful memories, just choose 3 to add to the competition, so that we can enjoy them with you.

Looking forward to seeing all these favourite memories, as we remember QE2 at this time of year and start to collect photos for the 2026 calendar!
