August 2024 : QE2 and animals
« on: Aug 06, 2024, 08:36 AM »
The theme for this month's photo competition is "QE2 and animals", chosen by Katharina Ernst.

Photos are most likely to have been taken on board, especially when the kennels were in use. Animals on shore are also eligible, but at least a sliver of QE2 must be visble in the picture.

Some pictures may already be in the QE2 Story Gallery -- if you would like to use any of those for the competition, just let the Moderators know, and we can enter them for you, without removing them from their original albums. We also assume that any photos in the Gallery may be entered in the competition by the Moderators on behalf of the owners / photographer members.

Your description should if possible give some information about when and where the photo was taken.

Photos entered should be your own, or if not, please post them with permission of the photographer, mentioning the name for copyright reasons, and so that the owner can be credited.

Enjoy the search and the memories!

The prize this month is the Ship Steward's Handbook by J J Traynor, bought on board QE2 and donated by me.

How to enter

The album is open -- so now is the time to look for your three most interesting pictures on this theme. Wishing you happy memories as you search your photo collection to find up to three pictures to upload to the competition album.

This link will take you straight there : QE2 and animals.

If you have not uploaded photos to the Forum Gallery for a while, have a look at these instructions, and if you have any problems or would like us to move a photo from the Gallery into the competition, just contact us on admin@theqe2story.com.

If it helps, you could email the photos to the above address, and we shall gladly upload them for you.

The deadline for submitting photos is 1 September 2024. Voting will run from the beginning of September 2024 until 1 October 2024, until everyone's time zone has caught up with the closing date.

We look forward to seeing your photos in this competition.

This is the final month of photos for the 2025 calendar. Maybe your photo will figure there :) .

Enjoy yourselves!

I remember hearing a story onboard about a crew member buying a snake and a rat to feed it with. This was discovered by ships security shortly after leaving port. Apparently the security chief, possibly Bob Venning, marched out onto the foc'sle with the snake dangling from one hand and the rat by its tail from the other and dumped them over the side! ;D
Would be great if somebody had a photo of that.

This little stowaway too can obviously count as "QE2 and animals"!

Pity we do not know who the photographer was, so that he or she could claim and enter it! Is he or she a member here?

And how about edible animal figures in the Midnight Buffet?

Guilty.  Why is it printed with the QE2 onboard wording  ?. I dont know. I had put some film into the photo shop for developing and back came the photos all with the edging.
I also had a video camera and some how was able to film the poor little thing being petted. It was a windy sail away, and aside from nearly grounding off Cowes it was for me in every way a very unique and memorable cruise.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

14 photos uploaded to the competition album, but we would like to see your interpretation of this month's theme.  QE2 and animals

Have a look at the pictures that have been entered - you might get some inspiration.

Remember that the photo must show a bit of QE2 to meet the theme.

I've tried submitting a couple of photos but your email address isn't recognised by my computor for some reason.

Closing date for entries to this month's photo competition is 1 September so there is still time to enter your photos that meet the theme.

You can always see the exact closing time in your own time zone at the bottom of the poll. Please vote :)

Good luck
