Hello from Mick!
« on: Jan 27, 2009, 10:39 PM »
Hi Rob

My name is Mick, you have seen me as galeforce.19 on flickr.

I first saw the wonderful lady after launch during 1968 (I actually saw her from a Vanguard aircraft on approach to Glasgow Airport at night, an unforgettable sight).

Next was from Queen Mary II sailing from Glasgow to Tinnabruich and back on a beautiful September 1968 sunny day when I took some photos of her, fortunatey I kept the slides.

My aviation career took over and I did not see her again until  Funchal in October 2006 when I decided to sail in her before she was retired.

2008 was my year, westbound transatlantic in January, Biscay in August, final transatlantic eastbound seen from QM2 and her final voyage to Dubai.

I hope to return to Dubai soon and gain access (thanks to a local friend and find out what exactly is happening to her)

Hey Mick, a very warm welcome!!

Can't wait to see your photos as you load them up to flickr - keep us updated!

I would have loved to see QE2 in her element from the QM2.  The one thing I always felt they should have done is... allow QE2 to drop back a few miles, then crank her up to max power/speed and let her thunder past the QM2 at full speed at close quarters, I think that would have looked stupendous.

Bay of Biscay last August was surprisingly (for me) stormy and felt like a transatlantic - i LOVED It!  We had gale force 10, yet still averaged nearly 28 knots.

Cheers,

- Rob.

Congratulations on your superb uploads to Flickr! Your latest collection of QE2 signs and notice boards is wonderful, and so reminiscent of the ship. It is great to see them side by side all at once...

As the "official" photographer during this 2009 QE2Story World Cruise, I am quite jealous...

You have very wisely neither tagged nor described them -- now, we can have a little fun recalling where each of these signs and notices are located...  :D
