In response to an enquiry in relation to the Cunard Clothes Range launched on QE2 in 1969 thanks to Michael Gallagher for searching for the following information.  See also The British Pathe video of models onboard QE2 in March 1969, modelling some of the range.

New Cunarder’ Collection

In 1967 Monsanto Textiles, the British subsidiary of the Monsanto Company of St Louis in the United States acquired from Cunard the exclusive rights for fashion wear and formed the ‘Cunarder Club’, a group of 20 well-known manufacturers who all agree to design special collections with the QE2 theme – the ‘New Cunarder Collection’.

The $600,000 project included a complete range of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing. For Cunard there would be no difficulty in getting a reasonable representation of the QE2 name on the labels.

The collection was originally to have been unveiled at a fashion presentation on board QE2 in Southampton before her January Maiden Voyage and in New York at the end of that voyage but the cancellation of the Maiden Season saw it launched in QE2 in Southampton in March 1969.

In fact here is that event in March 1969 covered by Pathe with an appearance by Lionel Blair!

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank
