New Cunarder’ CollectionIn 1967 Monsanto Textiles, the British subsidiary of the Monsanto Company of St Louis in the United States acquired from Cunard the exclusive rights for fashion wear and formed the ‘Cunarder Club’, a group of 20 well-known manufacturers who all agree to design special collections with the QE2 theme – the ‘New Cunarder Collection’.The $600,000 project included a complete range of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing. For Cunard there would be no difficulty in getting a reasonable representation of the QE2 name on the labels. The collection was originally to have been unveiled at a fashion presentation on board QE2 in Southampton before her January Maiden Voyage and in New York at the end of that voyage but the cancellation of the Maiden Season saw it launched in QE2 in Southampton in March 1969.In fact here is that event in March 1969 covered by Pathe with an appearance by Lionel Blair!https://cutt.ly/HeyTBMuL
