QE2 Dubai photos - March 2024
« on: Mar 09, 2024, 09:47 AM »
Alex has just been on board once again (how many visits is it now Alex?) last week enjoying QE2.  He says she's looking great, and was busy while he was there, with a nice buzz.

He stayed in 8105, the former staff captains cabin.  It has a separate sitting room and small windows.  Immaculate, and a very good hotel room, loads of amenities, multiple plug sockets, great shower etc.  In general, she looks amazing inside, but slightly tired now outside (on the decks).

Attached is a before (2008) and after (2024) of the cabin.  I love all the original woodwork and features of the original suite, but the current version is rather more what a modern hotel guest would expect.  Again, I love that they've put the long elongated window into the bathroom, thats such a nice touch, and "so QE2" - linking all the way back to the original tall windows of the Double Up room.

Alex commented that in particular, the Lido and Pavillion were looking absolutely fabulous, food was good too!

First 3 are of the Pavillion.

It is really great to see these photos and to follow QE2's ever improving evolution since she opened as a hotel.

We may not immediately recognise some of the places, but she changed before too, and it is probably normal that she needs to move with the times while also highlighting her tradition and heritage.

The Pavilion and Lido look attractive, and so does the food!

Wonderful photos, and right that she should change with the times, as she has always done.

8 completely random photos from the ones Alex sent me.

QE2 and the Palms, at dusk

QE2 seen from one of her mighty propellors.

View from the observation deck / "the bit under the bridge".  (Whats the white square on the deck Alex?)

View from the bridge wing.

View from the Chart Room (former Midships bar) where they finally seem to have figured out how to dim the lighting, making it get some of the old character back.

Queens Room ready for an event.

Last 2 pics - some very original features hiding in plain sight!

Thank you and Alex for the photos.

Yes, the Chart Room is looking rather pleasant and the lighting is good.

I wonder where the last two of these photos were taken? At first, I thought of the open space in front of the Computer Learning Centre, but the second photo (presumably of the same space) does not look like that.

Interesting guessing game!

Isabelle, I’d take a punt that this is the Business Centre aft of 2 deck G Stair - where the Security Lock Box Centre was and before that Barclays (?). Probably that block of 6 inboard cabins.
