March 2024 : Normally out of bounds areas
« on: Mar 04, 2024, 08:47 PM »
The theme for this month's photo competition is "Normally out of bounds areas", chosen by Twynkle.

Photos can have been taken onboard or from dockside, in port or at anchorages. They should show areas that are not normally open to passengers, and would of course include all crew areas. But passengers could also think of areas visible to passengers or not so strictly out of bounds, such as the foredeck, the public toilets, the Baggage Masters' domain, the crew pantries in the alleyways, and even the restaurants between meals.

Some pictures may already be in the QE2 Story Gallery -- if you would like to use any of those for the competition, just let the Moderators know, and we can enter them for you, without removing them from their original albums.

Your description should give some information about which port the photo was taken.

Photos entered should be your own, or if not, please post them with permission of the photographer, mentioning the name for copyright reasons, and so that the owner can be credited if the photo is published in the calendar!

Enjoy the search! It is bound to bring many happy memories of memorable port visits.

How to enter

The album is open -- so now is the time to look for your three most interesting pictures on this theme. Wishing you happy memories as you search your photo collection to find up to three pictures to upload to the competition album.

This link will take you straight there : Normally out of bounds areas.

If you have not uploaded photos to the Forum Gallery for a while, have a look at these instructions, and if you have any problems or would like us to move a photo from the Gallery into the competition, just contact us on admin@theqe2story.com.

If it helps, you could email the photos to the above address, and we shall gladly upload them for you.

The deadline for submitting photos is 31 March 2024. Voting will run from 1 April 2024 until 1 May 2024, until everyone's time zone has caught up with the closing date.

We look forward to seeing your photos in this competition.

This is the third month of photos for the 2025 calendar. Maybe your photo will figure there :) .

Enjoy yourselves!

Some photos have now been uploaded to the competition album. You will see how varied those places are which are "normally out of bounds" and in many cases can be seen (but not entered) by passengers.

You will also notice that some of these photos were uploaded by Moderators (in this instance, me) on behalf of members who requested us to do so. Please feel very welcome to send your photos to the Admin mailbox (admin@theqe2story.com) and ask us to upload them for you if you are not too sure how to do it yourself.

Does anyone have a photo of the area by the porthole way down by the propeller ? How about more engine room photos ? How about “the barn” ? How about inside the funnel ?

Looking forward to more photos being added to this competition.

You are ambitious, June, and rightly so. Looking to our ex-crew members to help us out with such photos and other areas normally inaccessible to passengers.

But there are also other areas that we innocent passengers can contribute too, as these out-of-bounds areas were visible, though not accessible, to us.

The foredeck. The lookout places (what were they called?) where the Captain and crew could guide the ship during berthing and anchoring. The luggage store. The little crew galleys in the alleyways.

And even the restaurants between meal times, when we were not supposed to be there, but enjoyed the peace and quiet for photo opportunities.

Looking forward to more of these photos -- be generous!
