Celebrity Silhouette
« on: Nov 18, 2023, 10:39 PM »
Hi folks, just returned from a 10 day cruise on Celebrity Silhouette, 120,000 tons of WOW!
Okay I know I’m one of those who loves waxing lyrical about old ships and criticizing the modern floating condominiums!
Well now I have gone over to the dark side ;D, the ship was beautiful inside, had a fantastic array of amenities and the service and food was amazing.
30 years ago I worked onboard one of Celebrity’s first ships the Zenith. Absolutely hated it! Very sterile atmosphere onboard with very up tight Greek officers. In 2001 we went on the Celebrity Mercury to Alaska and had a fabulous time, they had really gotten the swing of things by then. Well this last one shows continuous improvement.
The ship has a capacity of 2800 passengers and 1200 crew, great space and pax to crew ratio. The only places that felt crowded were the Ocean View cafe and the Theater, even then the traffic flow onboard is well managed.
Darned thing sat in  the water like a Rock! we did encounter some choppy seas with 60 mile an hour winds hitting the side at the end of the cruise, list was only 3 to 4 degrees!
Crew was very multinational, tons of Phillipino and Indonesian with a sprinkling of Eastern European and South African. Several British officers including the Hotel Manager and the Cruise Director who had a great supply of jokes about his Grand Dad ;D
I will leave you with some photos.
Cheers Chris

Thanks Chris for your review and photos.  Looks like you had a good holiday.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Hi Rod, she certainly had plenty. Lots of very interesting artwork on board and tastefully designed public rooms. There were 11 different restaurants, some of them an optional up charge to dine in, but well worth the expense. Also had 14 different bars, including a dedicated martini bar and craft whiskey bar.
Here are some more pictures, of the main two-story restaurant, BLU which was dining for passengers in aqua class, and a Photos of the three deck smaller atrium, and the solarium on 12 deck.

I do like the Solstice Class ships.

The company I work for (James Howden & Co Ltd) supplied a turbo blower to Meyer Werft in 2012 for Reflection which was the fifth and final ship of class. I got a three day commissioning trip from Barcelona to Malaga on her in Nov 2012.
Interiors were similar to the photos above.

She has called at Greenock (home town) the last couple of seasons.

I'm sorry but what is the room with the red squares at the end?
Am I missing something?

It looks like a swimming pool to me?

The room with the red squares is the solarium, sorry that photo was a bit dark.
The red and blue squares was a kinetic artwork that changed color and had water fountains at the bottom.
There was a lap pool and hot tubs in this area.
