I have had emails from both Cunard and my travel agent about the 'Coronation' sailing - bookable from tomorrow until 1st May - the prices offered at such short notice may be the cheapest ever for QM2 for a five day trip so an opportunity for anybody who has the time flexibility to take up the offer - Cunard taking advantage of the timing to cash in on their royal connections.

The return date of May 7th was presumably also that of the cancelled return transatlantic from New York so enabling the existing schedule to be picked up from there.

Its a great deal, and I'd love to do it, would be fun, but work prevents.  Sigh.

  • QE2 started a dream to go to sea - now a reality!
I am going to see about taking up this rare opportunity given my current income, also being able to get a cheaper price than the lowest advertised. Just got to see if I'll be going to sea otherwise, within those dates, first. It's a pity this won't count towards the required sea time as part of the cadetship!

First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

My daughter is going to try to book herself this special cruise,  she was last om QM2 way  back in 2003 on one of the 'shakedown cruises'.

She's getting herself ready for a long wait to get through on the phone.

Go for a pee before 1255, settle into a comfortable chair, be prepared for constant "your call means a lot to us, please wait.....", and of course the obligitary, and endless, 'Greensleeves' music!!

She's booked!  Catagory EF Britannia Ocean view. No cabin allocation yet.

A friend of mine tried to book for the two of us via the phone lines (as they have the Carnival UK friends and family discount) but alas didn't get through by the time it sold out (within the hour). My Dad and his wife did manage to book though via pre-booking with Sovereign so I am looking forward to their photos etc etc as normal!

I'll just have to wait until hopefully boarding QM2 as crew someday in the next couple or so years, before being able to sail on her again given how exceptional this pricing was! By then it will be over 10 years since last being onboard!

Relocating to Berth 101, City Cruise Terminal which is right next to Mayflower Park since Britannia needs Berth 46, Ocean Terminal, tomorrow morning. Depending on which side she docks to and the weather, I might walk down the road to Mayflower Park and see her tomorrow.

She'll then head to Berth 38/9, QEII Terminal, ready for embarkation on Tuesday.

Hi Everyone

Thank you for keeping us posted re the troubles - both for the Crew, the Funnel, ship- and the passengers too.
We had several friends on board - it must have been hugely disappointing for them as well.
Having been hoping to sail on board in any case - we have been very fortunate as Sovereign managed to get us a cabin to Liverpool.
£60 per night - back to my Liverpool home, where I remember all to well the last Coronation>
We will also be celebrating my hubbies 80th...all together with mixed feelings including  a great big helping of guilt.
I will definitely try and see if we can do a QE2 Gathering...and will keep you posted...
Cheers, to you Rob.

Ah Dear Stefan ! he alwas was able to work his magic, when l met him on the farewell crossings at his bash he had been dining in all the restaurents, and being ex staff he was pulling ropes galore.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

I was wondering if there was going to be a trial voyage  in the Channel to confirm that the problem has been fixed but apparently not - would be even more embarrassing if there were still issues but hopefully has been fixed.

Judging by how quickly the cruise sold out I bet Cunard wish that they had not priced it so low too now!

I was thinking the same thing!  Maybe it's reminded them how much people want to be on board this most special of ships, if they can afford it...

Didn't hear any banging when I was down there.

I believe its not very often that QM2 is berthed at 101 so gives the public a real chance to see her up close from Mayflower Park as opposed to the more remote Eastern docks berths -  dwarfing Balmoral astern and Aurora in distance whose medium term future seems to have been secured by the announcement of a 2025 refit.

Interesting today to note that Iona is being refuelled by a LNG tanker that has arrived from Rotterdam - no local equivalent available?

Gary.
