Crew numbers and nationalities
« on: Feb 12, 2023, 10:53 AM »
George C Griffiths has sent a photo of information on the number of Crew and their Nationalities on QE2 in 2007.

Of the 1009 crew 83% were male and 17% female.

It would be good to see more crew nationality lists over many years. to see how the nationalities of the crew have changed.

I know it wouldn't be possible, but would be amazing to see a chart like that for every year or every 5 years, or even every 10 years of the ships life.  She saw drastic changes in that respect as she changed song with the entire industry.
Passionate about QE2's service life for 40 years and creator of this website.  I have worked in IT for 28 years and created my personal QE2 website in 1994.

That would be amazing if we could get more lists like the one George has sent.

In reality Jan Kristianson, the only passported Norwegian, on that list was 'really' a 'Scousewegian', as he lived in Liverpool with his lovely wife Margaret a former Norwegian/American Line Casino Dealer.

A great friend from both Vistafjord & QE2 days. Spent many an hour 'discussing' football with him, him being an avid X 5 Liverpool supporter.

One of the nicest and most genuine people you could ever wish to meet.

George has posted another crew list from 2008.  Slightly less crew on the ship with a total of 998.

It could be that there was no Trainee BRS/Waiters/Bar Staff etc, i can't remember the correct name but, Cunard had an 'Academy' where all Hotel Trainees would start their Cunard life, usually 25/30 of them.

Many years later that this, my wife & i were on a Scenic river cruise and the F&B Manager 'remembered' me from his day as a Trainee, i had taught them general discipline and Safety, small world!

Wow thats amazing how things change in 69 through mid 70's there was probably a dozen or so nationalities.  English Welch Scots Irish North and South Maltese Spanish Portugese with one or two others until the Chinese arrived to man the laundry. 72/73 Cunard decided to spice the galley up with 1 Swiss 1 Dutch and 2 French Chef de Parties that was really novel. I think they came from Trafalgar shore establishments, I remember we could put ourselves forward to work in one of their Paris Hotels.  That was long before Karl Winkler came aboard.
I did a tour of the "Independence of the Seas" around 2011, she had 90 different nationalities.

when you look at lists like that, it always wants me to pick a name and ask  : How did you  get here?
