Saturday 23 September follow on events
« on: Jan 21, 2017, 02:30 PM »
Looking at a number of options now, with the aim of coming to a decision by the end of the month.

If anyone has any good ideas, I'd be happy to listen!

I'd like to see the Titan crane. I'd be hoping to see it after the conference finished (or before it starts) as I don't really want a day in Glasgow to be spent just visiting the crane. That is unless you're planning a full day of trips in the Clydebank area.

Thanks Malcolm.  The tricky thing with a Titan visit will be the weather, and the numbers.  For example I'm nervous about taking a large group there, in case its cold and wet.  The timings for a cold wet visit would be different to a nice sunny one!  I've visited a number of times, and its a great visit though.  You get a great view up and down river, across to the hills, and directly down to the fitting out basin of course.

There's a small visitors centre (30 people) at the foot of the crane, and the top of the crane itself can take a similar number I think.   We are already speaking to them about a discount available to all conference ticket holders.
As you have guessed, I personally do not think there is enough else in Clydebank (any more!) to keep your interest for a day, so we're looking at Glasgow City Centre for event space on Saturday.  Its 20 minutes by direct train from the station adjacent to the Town Hall and Titan crane.

I've attached a map to help.

Hi Rob,
me'n'Liz, are staying the extra day, we (I really) have plans to go see the builders model in the museum,  perhaps impromptu coffee bar for folk to meet up & say their goodbyes?

Who would be interested in the following?

I am not saying this will happen, just assessing interest.

Duration : 3 Hours.
Boat trip from Glasgow to the Titan with time ashore to visit the Titan, and return trip back up the clyde.  We'd get someone relevant to do a commentary.

The cost would be £30 including the Titan ticket, which would only cover the costs if 100 people paid in advance.

Yes please, count Tom and I for the boat trip down the Clyde to the Titan Crane.  Brilliant idea.

You could add another two here :) You say that you need 100 people to be able to offer that rate. Would reducing the numbers drastically increase the price? Would that price increase discourage the diehards who want the trip?

Count me in as a definite. It's going to be a busy period for me what with the Crew Reunion in Soton a month before! Credit Cards are going to get a hammering what with hotels, travelling expenses, etc.

An excellent opportunity to sail down the River Clyde to the Titan Crane and to learn a bit about the river's shipbuilding history.

I know that Rob will be giving more details when setting up booking option, but if you are interested please post to add your name to show your interest, so that we have an indications of numbers from forum members.
