QE2 in Chinese Political Propaganda

I popped in to the Shanghai Propaganda Poster Museum today and found a surprise waiting for me.

The image seen in the lower left of this large (212 x 77 cm) poster is clearly a likeness of QE2, though it is of course not identified as such.

She is parked next to a non-existent aircraft carrier. 

The poster's slogan reads LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA and was created in 1979 by artist Yang Keshan

Amazing that she pops up in the most unusual places.    Was the propaganda artist trying to convey a message about the Capitalist society or did the artist just like the QE2.

My interpretation, seeing that it is propaganda, was to create an image of a China that didn't exist in 1979.  China was at that time still fresh from the cultural revolution and still mostly closed to the world.   Propaganda had switched from "revolution" and the Mao personality cult to more moral-boosting messages.  Even though the China in this poster was a fantasy, I'm sure it was successful to some degree in making some of the masses proud to be Chinese.

Stowaway 2K was surprised to find the image of QE2 on a poster (created in 1979) that was on display in the Shanghai Propaganda Poster Museum.  Amazing to see an image of a ship based on QE2 used for this poster.
