"The Photography of John Edward Kerr Smith - Staff Photographer, John Brown Shipyard" a talk by Dr Bruce Peter from the Glasgow School of Art. To be held at the Scottish Maritime Museum, Irvine, rescheduled for the 14th December, 7 for 7:30

Please advise asap should you wish to attend.

“John Edward Kerr Smith (1929–92) was the chief staff photographer for the great Clydebank shipbuilder John Brown & Co. from 1950 to 1966, and later for the Upper Clyde Shipyards at Clydebank and Govan. In a career spanning almost a quarter of a century he photographed some of the most important ships to be launched on the Clyde, producing a stunning portfolio of ‘official’ photographs for documentary and promotional purposes as well as an extensive body of self-motivated work. The result is a unique pictorial insight into the last phase of Glasgow’s most heroic industrial endeavour” Scottish Society for the History of Photography.
Dr Bruce Peter is a design historian in the Department of Historical and Critical Studies,

Glasgow School of Art. He has published extensively on the history of British and

Scandinavian maritime design, including most recently the authorised history of Cunard’s

flagship liner, the QE2

Thank you for this, Rob.
Wishing, not for the first time, it was 'down the road'!

For anyone able to go, might it also be worth asking Linda Ross (Curator) in advance whether they will be putting QE2's  Wardroom Visitors book on display?

Style at Sea Exhibition from 6 April 2017

The Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine, Scotland is holding a Style at Sea exhibition exploring the style and glamour of the giant Ocean Liners built on the Clyde for Cunard, by John Brown and Company, during the 20th century. Items on display will include the QE2 Ward Room log book.

The exhibition starts on 6 April and I have been told that it will run until 26 September, 2017, which would give people visiting for the conference the opportunity to visit.

There is also a fabulous Style at Sea Evening event:  A night of cocktails, dancing and glamour on 20 May.  Sounds like a fabulous opportunity to wear your favourite cruise evening wear and dance the night away.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Another nice plug for the Style at Sea exhibition, with a nice piece about QE2 too.
