Robert Lloyd paintings

Howdy Everyone,

While on our first TA crossing back in June, I spent a lot of time in the QM2 Bookshop. What an absolutely splendid shop...with a wonderful array of maritime titles and paintings. Anyway, I purchased several paintings by James Flood. Since our TA crossing followed the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebration, the Librarian mentioned that James Flood was about to begin a painting that celebrated the meeting of Cunard's 3 Queens at Southampton (as part her Majesty's ongoing many Celebrations). The Librarian was able to give me a detailed description of what the painting should like look. Fast forward two months to today...I have received my painting! It is absolutely beautiful! Signed by both Captain Chris Wells and James Flood, the painting displays a action packed scene of the Queens departing/docked at Southampton while under a cloudy sky, with a fireworks display. If you enjoy maritime art, especially those depicting our Cunard Queens, you have to check out this painting. I believe on 75 are being made.

Until next time...

CJ

Howdy...my mistake. My apologies. My new painting is the work of maritime artist Roger Lloyd. I had all three of paintings lying out, and I looked at the name of another wonderful painted, James Flood.

Until next time...

Lucky you to have a wonderful collection of these paintings plus a wonderful memory of the three Queens event.

Is it this Robert Lloyd painting, in the article by Captain Greybeard, in the Mirror earlier this year?

I have it on very good authority that this painting is to be hung on show on all "3" Queens very shortly if not already as I saw it being handed over to the Commodore of the fleet in the presence of Mr Shanks & the Major of Southampton aswell as others not so long ago when the QM2 was in port
Has anyone seen it onboard yet ???

This is an absolutely incredible painting! I see the original is available for sale, I wonder how much that would cost?!

Cunard bought the original when they bought copies for each ship and the city of Southampton and thanks to Robert one hangs in my dining room.

Lucky you! The detail is amazing, I'm sure everytime you look at it you'd spot something new.

Yes. But still can't find the monkey. But have never found the monkey on any of his paintings!

Neither have I! If you ever do, let me know  ;) (or maybe he's having us all on?!)

ETA: if anyone is confused by the monkey reference, it's explained here on his website (PDF file)

Oh My Word!

Even the reproduction in Mr Honeywell's link is brilliant!
What a superb painting in reality it must be.
Moreover, with a magnifying glass, you can almost certainly 'see' a few of us in the mid-ground too!
(Do you know whether RL was standing /sitting near the top of one of the hotels, or maybe the Carnival building...or maybe that's a secret!)
Thank you, Everyone for showing us this.
Heading off to work out the best way of viewing a copy at close quarters! :)
Rosie.

(PS - His print of steamer chairs on Deck 7, QM2 is still rolled up, waiting to be framed and hung up in front of my desk!)
