LOCATION DISCRIMINATION!

I have just tried all the links and a screen comes up and states "This Service is Not Available in Your Area"!

I am on the same planet (some may beg to differ)

Some people say if you go through a UK based proxy server you should be able to view it.

Rob - given that view behind you, was it deliberate planning or just a lucky chance that the studio doing the feed overlooked the Titan?

I hear you Skilly and Highlander - I can't get it here either ... Hoping someone can figure out a way to broadcast it in our direction.  Looking good Rob!  Love the QE2Story pin on your lapel.

I'm just catching up with things here - and I wanted to thank everybody for their kind comments about my wee media appearances yesterday!  I see it as a practice run for when I can help announce more exciting news sometime, hopefully.

I'm trying to get the footage from the Beeb so that I can convert it (with permission) to something which i can put on our website.  I don't know how to convert the iPlayer stuff, and I wouldn't do it without permission from them.

Great work Rob, amazing!!

On another note, I just had a thought...

QE2's Bell, Builders Plaque etc are just a few hundred feet from the place where they spent most of their existence...

Odd but true!

I recorded the interview and have it on disc but not sure if copyright would apply for putting it on Youtube.  Rob do you know if can  something can be put on Youtube that has recorded from TV?
I was only eighteen the first time I stepped onboard QE2 in 1968. She was a thoroughly modern lady and I fell in love with her.

QE2 looks to be in such superb condition!

It looks as if the sports deck area has been partially cleared - no green netting any more.

Stunning pictures, Rob and Michael -- thank you so much! What a great view from the helicopter  :D  ...

Here is a photo of Rob in the  BBC Glasgow TV Studio with the River Clyde and Clydeport Crane in the background.  He is introduced as running a very well informed QE2 Forum.

Rob, was it a background picture behind you, or the real view from this beautiful BBC Scotland building?

If people hadn't already made their minds up, the photos with the two ships together will.

Definitely no doubt as to which one is the better looking ship! :'(

I like the new QE3 but QE2 looks the most elegant and regal there.

I really wished the BBC would upload a clip of their report as they have done it before. Thank Rob for doing the interviews. I listened to the radio one and I loved how the presenter put a recording of QE2's horn on.

I think its safe to say and hopefully QE2 is safer in Dubai. If she were in Britain she could have been a threat because of the cuts.

I still miss this beautiful lady. :'(

I wish I had seen QE2 break from her moorings. Lucky she didn't get damaged though but she was saying something. She wants to see her admirers again!

I'm sad wearecunard haven't covered this or Queen Victoria's meeting with RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach.

All those beautiful pictures of QE2 and QE are magnificent......In spite of QE being all shiny and new....we all know who really is the beautiful one.....had to reach for the kleenex box again!!
As far as the We Are Cunard blog is concerned.... the meeting of QV and Old Queen Mary was written up with pictures on the blog a couple of weeks ago and I am quite sure that this meeting of QE2 and QE will also be featured...just give Alastair Greener a little time to put it together.

I have to say, honestly, that I'm a bit disappointed that not a single person from the thousands of people on board QE, including many many hundreds of former QE2 passengers and crew, have found their way here to tell us what it was like as the two QEs met.

How many people were seen to cross over to QE2 for a closer look?  How many people were seen taking photos of her either close up, or from QE?  How many people were talking about her?  How many people were up early to see a first glimpse of her?

Rob, l wouldn't get disappointed yet, its only been a few days. Do remember It could be the fact that its only when people actually return home and get settled back into routine that the photos might start being posted, I'm sure she was on folks minds, but probably not enough to make them rush to start posting photos. And if the onboard IT is as dreadfully slow as it was on QE2 then that will only make things worse.
Other than Rosies blog, lets see what the other blogs make of the visit.

However look at the hits and guest views that have been in recent days.why not start a thread for people who were there to post under, might that make it easier for them?

What would be interesting would be what did people actually think of QE2 sitting there, and what their latest news was. It would be interesting to be a bystander and hear what people thought was the latest news, THAT l fear might surprise everyone.
It could have been an ideal time for Dubai to sneek someone on (No photos of course) so they could report all was well....
Everyone on here has a thirst for QE2 news, in fact any news, As you know Rob, lm forever beating the lack of no news drum, even l get frustrated, heck if they cant even issue a press release about her dry docking what hope is there for any news.
Anyway just my thoughts, and l need to go before my drum explodes

Yes but he also said this in December 2008

Quote
The QE2 held Cunard back from becoming a “totally luxury fleet”, Carnival UK chief commercial officer Peter Shanks has admitted.

Shanks said agents could now sell Cunard as a pure luxury brand.

“The QE2 held us back in many ways as a brand. We could not say a certain cabin on deck five [of the QE2] was luxury. Now it is a totally luxury fleet, with consistent product.”

He admitted the brand could not rely on its quality alone to survive the tough period ahead, and said its version of the “Harrods sale” had been brought forward by several months to boost bookings.

I have two thoughts after reading Peter Shank's comments:  1)  reminds me of the guy who leaves his wife for a younger woman and two years later is looking over his shoulder wondering if he's made a huge mistake.  2) the cynic in me believes Cunard is just using the QE2 as a hook for free publicity.  Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I'm just hoping that Cunard are, behind the scenes, willing to help to save the QE2.  I'm slightly more hopeful now that they've sort of embraced her this year in Dubai and by releasing the press release admitting she's still their most famous ship.

I firmly believe she needs their help, and that it may be essential to saving her properly.  Not necessarily to buy her back, but just to help and assist.  The SS Rotterdam has some sort of collaboration with HAL - there are brochures and images on board - and if Cunard help to make QE2 a hotel somewhere, she could be an enormous PR asset to them.  Imagine it - brochures on board, on the in-room televisions.  Discounted cruise rates if booked on board.   Then, in the public rooms, flatscreen monitors showing the locations and webcams of the current cunard fleet.  Also Cunard posters and imagery of QE2 through the years.  She could be, and should be, a floating tribute and advert for Cunard.

Regarding what I sensed as a shift in how QE2 has been protrayed by Cunard, perhaps the marketing people have finally figured out that QE2 is Cunard and it is pointless to try to erase her from crew, ships, and people's minds.  I do find it very refreshing what I have been hearing from Mr. Shanks.  Oh, I do get what he meant in that horrid interview just before QE2 left for the last time, but he really should have refrained from that comment.  I imagine he got earfulls of comments on QE2 while onboard QM2 recently.  Perhaps he truly gets it now, almost like Carol Marlow got it at the end too....hmmm.
