Chris tells me that QM2 calls at Dubai next month.

Unless QE2 moves before than, I guess she's going to berth right behind QE2?

That will be interesting... new, freshly refitted, gigantic, ugly (yes ugly) flagship visits older abandonded beautiful sister, which still had CUNARD emblazoned on her side last time I looked.

How will that go down?
How will the QM2 passengers feel?
How will Nakheel feel (I think some of them thought they were buying QM2....).
How will Cunard play it?

The best solution would be for the QM2 passengers to disembark, embark QE2, leave QM2 with Nakheel, and head for home!

Think these are the correct dates for Dubai calls on their World Cruises: ???

QM2: 21st March  6am-5pm

QV: 29th March  8am-6pm

I'd put money on there being something wrong with their repsective bridge webcams that day...... or am I just a cynical old witch?  ::)

I agree with Andy's idea.

I am aboard QM2 later this month as a guest lecturer, but disembark before she arrives in Dubai.

However, I do have some family members who will be aboard as she sails into Dubai - they will be ready with their cameras on our behalf :)

Not so sure about this - Wouldn't it be courteous to leave something quite modern for the Dubai-ans?  QV perhaps?

Leave Vicky Brown and take back QE2. I also had been told that both QM and QV were visiting Dubai. Ah, now I have dates, and I will be making coarse comments if they dare turn their webcams off. ;D
Yes, yes, to taking QE2 back. I feel sorry for Vicky Brown, she is just a tacky Vista-class cruise ship pretending to be an ocean liner. And QMary der Grosse has a queer looking stern, looks as if someone gave her a kick up the backside. I hope to get a better view (and photos) next Monday when she comes to Auckland.

I wonder how hard it will be 4 the captains of both the QM2 and QV - who no doubt had some association with the QE2 - when they visit dubai and their QE2 sits in fron t of them with her name and Southampton proudly on her bottom (how british) will the QE2 blast her beautiful whistle to them???? Please remember the QV is a carnival ship in disguise plans are utilised throughout  the company to keep costs down at least he QM2 was designed by Stephen Payne who probably even if he slightly disliked the QE2's layout - see ne article about the building of the QM2 - may be saddened - perhaps one of the crew could do as they did in Star Trek 3 and steal the QE2 ?????????

She looks like she is ready to sail back to Soton!!! those seagulls look to comfortable - and the flag?? it's surely not the jolly roger?????

Queen Victoria will be under the command of Captain McNaught. I imagine it will be extremely difficult for him to see QE2 sitting there.

I don't think Nakheel thought they were getting QMary der Grosse. It will be INTERESTING to see QE2 on her webcam, and I hope someone will capture the webcam image for here. As for Q Vicky, would she DARE turn her webcam on to a REAL ocean liner? Time will tell.

I don't think Nakheel thought they were getting QMary der Grosse.

Some of the Dubai media certainly were getting mixed up - one of hte websites had a tribute video to QE2 on it, and it ONLY showed QM2 on the exterior shots!  The Phil Blizzard guy (www.ameinfo.com) who is on so many also claimed to have been on QE2 and marvelled at her planetarium...

Just checked the Cunard voyages for dates - from what is there, it looks as if QM2 arrives Dubai on Saturday, 21st - departs 5.00pm local time
Have I read it wrong Chris?

This is correct. Some friends of ours are boarding QM2 in Dubai on Saturday (as I learnt yesterday!). They have promised to watch out for QE2 for us and, if possible, to take photos of her.

I am not getting my hopes up too much, as they are not in great health and may not feel like gallivanting around Dubai after a night flight preceded by a nightmarish terminal change in Heathrow...

But of course I am really hoping to hear from them about what they saw in Dubai and heard onboard QM2! Shall have to wait for that though until after QM2 reaches Southampton and they have made their way home again...

Q Mary die Grosse's webcam is showing a calm sea, as she proceeds to Dubai. I went to a place where I can troll the w.w.w. and get nice printouts. On www.etravelblackboard.com I found a quote from a David Dingle, Carnival Uk CEO and Managing Director. He was in Sydney last week and when asked "he rejected any notion that Carnival could play a role in QE2.
saying, 'As far as we're concerned the QE2 has been sold, and is the responsibility of the new owners (Dubai)'"
So there it is in print:- we've sold the old bitch, so get used to it.
Sorry Carnivorious, your new Queen will have to look at QE2 and don't you DARE turn of the bridge-cam. :P

A few more:

My parents say QE2 looks superb. As if ready to sail. Apparently there are a team of security guards aboard walking the decks and someone has hung their washing over the railings on the Sun Deck area (that overlooks the Sports Centre which seems to still be intact).

More details tomorrow upon their return home.

So it seems people are making themselves at home aboard our favourite lady?  :'(
I wonder if any QM2 passengers will be able to crete a distraction and find their way onboard?..... not that I'd EVER condone such behaviour  ;)

Thanks for the screen grabs Chris - glad to see there are still people busy on the forum nightshift!
Looking forward to hearing more updates and possibly seeing some photos too.

Wow.  I never thought I'd see that.  Amazing.  Is that also the first time they've ever docked one behind the other?  Must be I think.

Interesting also that there's a third large cruise ship there, but they arranged them so that QM2 was right behind QE2 - I bet that was deliberate - and not on Cunard's part!

I do worry... QM2 looks so huge and new, QE2 when right next to her will look small, low, but sleek and curvy and elegant - will her owners appreciate that - and what she once was, and that she too was once the biggest and the flagship?

I should think that is extremely unlikely unfortunately :(
I guess that unless a miracle occurred and she was brought back to the UK this is the last time the 2 of them will ever meet as I can't imagine QM2 sailing past The Palm, or whatever it is, when she is eventually moved them (hopefully never)

I'm inclined to agree, but we're at the start of the biggest global recession of our lives, work has stopped all over Dubai... at the moment I think all bets are still off!

Can anyone see something that looks suspiciously like water coming from the port side - or is it something else - a chain / line?/ overflow from a washing machine?!

On Ali's image - it seems to be coming from the starboard side!

Could it also be that Cunard wants the public to forget about the QE2 so that is why Cunard did not announce that the QM2 is going to be docked behind the QE2.The same thing could happen next week if the Queen Victoria also docks behind the QE2 and there is no announcement about that from Cunard. At least the QM2 still has her bridge camera pointed at the QE2. To Chris, Isabelle and anyone else who can get quality photos of the QM2 & QE2 in Dubai

If you get good photos, and allow me, I'll get in touch with the journalists that i've spoken to in the last few months and see if they're interested in the photos.  Dont know what, if anything they'd pay (not much I'd have thought - not a big story...) but worth a shot to see if we can get another story run?
