If this is the B&W film that shows all the ship yard blokes coming into the pump and their pints and whiskeys were already there lined up by the landlord then it was playing on the on-board TV when we came on board for the final transatlantic in October 2008. t is a good film and I watched most of it before going on deck to see us leave Southampton.

I had the same thoughts, they also do a 2 week hire of the dvd for £7.50.
 I went for the 2 week hire to see if its worth investing in purchasing a copy....

I've emailed them to ask for a quote for a larger number of DVDs of this. 

I presume it will be substantially cheaper (it should be).

I'll let you know what they say, especially if its something reasonable!

Interestingly it mentions the 90 cabins issue during the building and that Cunarder is Gaelic for Dangerous
Its a throughly interesting film. It covers her building upto New Years eve 1969, however its all in black and white
None the less a great item of film, and lots of interesting bits...
The only minor thing is there is a counter on the bottom of the screen .

Unfortunately they say they can't do it for less than £40+p&p per disk because "Reproduction of this title is strictly for personal use only as STV own the copyright to this footage, due to this restriction we are unable to make additional copies for you."

I was assuming the cost was for time spent digging out the archive material and literally burning a DVD, but it sounds like the cost is more because of both this plus the copyright not being theirs.

Maybe STV can be approached direclty...

My copy arrived today. Of course I watched it. There was no counter in my version. An absolutely fascinating account. John Ranney was brilliant on camera. I think he was as much a villain as well as a hero of the project. I was in the 6th Clydebank Scout Group and I remember he came along to present the retiral present to our group leader one night in the70's. Our paths crossed again when I met him at a do in the Trades House in Glasgow inthe 80's.

One thing is confusing me. I remember when I, and most of the townsfolk of Clydebank, got to see through the QE2 before she left the yard that we saw through the double height room and I think we actually went up, or down, the spiral staircase. That room looked complete yet in the film you see workmen still working on it during the shakedown cruise. Is my memory deceiving me?
