A rainy New Years Day for QE2! Rain which i am greatful for as it has cleaned the dust off the window that the web camera is projected through from the Costa Luminosa.

I'd actually be quite happy if this year was as good as last for QE2... Which i don't think is by any means certain.

Happy New Year Everyone...

I agree with Rob, the current situation is totally unsustainable and cannot continue much longer.   QE2 is soaking up cash and there is no money to do the orginal plan and apparantly no other game in town.

However, there is always hope, check out the latest photos of the SS Rotterdam on Maritime Matters, if that venture is a success it will be a shot in the arm for ship preservation globally - go and stay on her if you can!  It is lovely to see her original 1950's interiors celebrated and restored, in my view it was a great loss to QE2 that she lost most of those amazing 1960's furnishings, if I recall Nakheel orgininally wanted them re-instated, perhaps not a bad idea after all?

I have no inside knowledge at all, but assume at some stage she'll be sold on to the highest bidder and that'll be that.

All the best,

Alex.

We might have more luck if we all dress up as Harry Potter, stand on the quay at Southampton, aim our wands at Dubai and shout "Accio QE2!".....?! Grin

Costa Europa is back in port in a few hours time, no matter how close she gets we're not likely to get pics anywhere near as good as the ones Rob posted the other day. Still, pics are pics. Smiley
I've just had a look at Europa's track on their webcam service, looks like she's steaming round in circles at 17 knots. Cheesy

Thanks for posting Matt.

It'll be interesting to note the webcam at the point of Europa's departure (daylight permitting!).
Hopefully this will show us the something about the amount of exhaust coming from QE2's Funnel.

Good to see her as always! Nice to get a closer view than normal too. A friend of mine (not into ships at all) keeps asking me when he sees me "so is she still there?"... he does it to wind me up, and it works too, but today i will tell him that yes she is - and here's the proof!

I mostly don't think like that, although it is sad she isn't still sailing like she was meant to.   I think its because I'm now so scared for her future.  I see her and am amazed/happy that she is still intact and all those ridiculous, awful, tragic things that we were told were going to happen to her, have not.  At the moment its like she's frozen in time on 27-11-08!

I Agree with you there Rob, its exactly how i think about the situation - greatful she is still in one piece, and happy to see her regardless of if she is at sea or not at the current time.

Even though i do know where she belongs, and should be right now (Something Transatlantic)!

Here she is with the sun starting to set around her.

Good Night QE2. Cry

There is something I find extraordinarily touching about those night time pictures... QE2 looks so full of life, so very much herself! One can just imagine the on-board dining and entertainment, the crew out on the town for their well-deserved parties, the passengers wandering round the floodlit decks.

I know this is not so at present -- but those night time shots sometimes make me forget that...!

Coming up to the date, 15 January last year, when she was supposed to be towed away to be cut apart, stretched and changed beyond recognition... It is wonderful to celebrate a full year when this has not happened and she is still herself... and to hope that good things may be in store for her this year!

Ah - Matt
Thank you!
Somehow she looks less lonely at night, too.
The local people couldn't take for granted, the fact that she's looking very special, either.
Perhaps a good reminder too, to anyone landing in Dubai airport - as long as she's under the flight path!?

Btw - did anyone see her lit up, from either shore side - or from a tender, another ship / boat etc

(The only time I saw her lit up was on 11.11.2008 - she looked truly magnificent)

 You are welcome Rosie!

The QE2 and Port Rashid are indeed on the flight path with respect to DXB. My father went back to Birmingham Airport with Emirates on the A380 a few months back, and he saw the QE2 out of the Port side of the aircraft as he took off and headed towards BHX. He actually took a photograph of the QE2 from the air on this flight; however it is a day time flight so she isn’t lit up with her own lights! It actually was very pleasant for me to see this- I didn’t realise the flight path would have been so close. I’m surprised we haven’t seen a few images from the aircraft - maybe it isn’t a regular flight path, or people don’t look out for the old girl!

Regards,
Matt

Hey Matt!
Have you had a look at the earlier posts on this topic?
Looking at the difference in shots from the various webcams-
that's interesting in itself!
QE2 is still in the same position as she was on Post No. 130
It's difficult to tell from many of the other webcams,
as they are all placed at different angles!

Here's the view from AIDAdiva's bridge webcams

Please...Is there by any chance  'someone' who might be able to put them alongside each other in this post /on this page?
The top image needs to be to be kept to port!
Arranged in landscape format, they give a good idea of what can be seen from the stern of QE2

Hello Rosie,

I stitched the photo's together using paint, so it gives us a general idea of the QE2's view from the stern. The images arent the best so it doesnt look fantastic, but you get the idea! I tried using Canon PhotoStitch but it didnt want to do it just as well. Hope this is what you wanted!

Hope your well,
Matt

This is a bit naughty of me but i couldn't resist.

Piccie attached of Aurora docked behind QE2 in December 2007, as seen from QE2's vast open, cleared teak decks.  This view must be very similar today in Dubai.  She seemed to follow QE2 around in her final years of service, and its quite poignant that she's paying her a visit there.  I wonder if Aurora's officers are thinking the same?

Thank you for posting this image from Aurora in Port Rashid.
She was there on 23.1.2010
and now making her way to Mumbai.
Brilliance of the Seas is in Dubai today - it seems she has no webcam!

About QM2 arriving in Port Rashid -
we are very much keeping our fingers crossed that she'll be tied up in the right place.

From taking a look at the thread
http://www.famouslinersonline.com/forum/index.php?topic=1315.0
 -  it seems that it could be helpful for the 'posters' there
to know that there's lots to find here, at The QE2 Story Forum!
Any news of QE2... this will be posted here first!
Might it be possible for someone to post a link to this site?

Doesn't seem to work for me, Marshall. Still getting the login page.

Pity that we can't take a wee look at this forum -- it's difficult to decide whether to join when there is nothing to see at all.
