It shows Queen Mary docked in Long Beach from the early 70s. Its more about Elton John than Queen Mary.

Hello!

One of the best parts of this business is being able to go on buying trips to search out rare and unusual memorabilia.  I just recently returned from a very successful buying trip in California where I stayed a few nights on Cunard’s majestic Queen Mary.

As some of you may know, the new operator of the ship is doing some refurbishment.  Fortunately for me, the project they were working on during my stay was re-carpeting all the hotel rooms on Main Deck.  As a result, I got a chance to go in and check out every  cabin and suite on both the port and starboard side of Main Deck.  Best of all, I had my camera.  It was a rare treat.  Aside from some maid’s and a few stewards back in the 1960’s (and maybe a couple of you on this list!), practically no one can say they have been in every cabin on Main Deck.  I’ve put a web page up with some of the photos.  Check it out!

Great footage filmed onboard recently by Barry Vaudrin of Cruising Authority.  There are the shameless plugs, but they are tollerable to see the grat video.

FYI, although we share the same last name, I am not directly related to the Love Boat Captain..... Tongue

Here's a link to his website which is loaded with wonderful podcasts to make your workday tollerable, that is if you can listen to your iPod.  Grin

Part 3 of the series has just been posted.  I do think this video sums it all up!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT-KqRk0Dws" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT-KqRk0Dws</a>

I think Myles could easily have been substituted for Barry in this video.  Grin

One further update.  Gavin MacLeod is not Scottish!  I am NOT related to him in anyway.  He changed his name early in his acting career.   Shocked

One thing that video shows, and which i remember, is that there is far too much stuff built up on the quayside, obscuring the ship and spoiling the effect.  i hope this is something they get right with QE2 when they eventually open her.  it would be better to go in low down, and then take a lift up, than go in high up due to the external structure they require for this.

Thanks for posting it, i'll watch it properly later when my internet connection isn't getting used up by my neighbours!

Oh Myles, I just meant that every word he said, you have said here first! Grin  I do enjoy his webcasts and his enthusiasm for cruising.  He has a real passion for old classic ships too such as the SS United States and Queen Mary.  Please, do not read anything else into that comment but after rereading it I guess I should have reread my post!
